    2. Joann H. Nichols
    3. Today I was looking in the book "Marriage Notices from Washington County, NY Newspapers 1799-1880, by Mary S. and Edward F. Jackson, Heritage Books, Inc. (1995) and found on page 397 the following marriage: Rudd, Ebb S. of Hoosick, NY, m. Carpenter, Mary A. of Hoosick, NY, 8 Sept. 1874, White Creek, NY. Anyone recognize him? Ebb might be short for Ebenezer, I suppose. Joann Nichols [email protected]

    3. Hi, Ron, Couple questions--how did you find a wife listed in the 1840 census? And in the 1850 census, could the Sindy have been Lindy? Old handwriting S & L are an awful lot alike. Good luck, Joann Nichols [email protected] Ronald Presley wrote: > Hello, Group----- > > I would like to thank everyone for the help you've given me in my hunt > for my orphan, JAMES W. G. 3. Hello, Group----- I would like to thank everyone for the help you've given me in my hunt for my orphan, JAMES W. G. RUDD. At this moment he is still an orphan, though we have had a good lead or two, he has not found his home yet. For a refresher, he was born in North Carolina about 1815. Possibly Caswell County. His wife on the 1840 census was MALINDA, born also about 1815, in NC. The 1850 census called her "SINDY". Maybe a nickname? Their first son was HENRY CLAY RUDD, born about 1840-41, in Cherokee Co., GA. There were several other children, all born in Cherokee Co., before they moved to Shelby Co., AL., in 1859-60. Have been looking for this one man for a lot of years. ANY help will be greatly appreciated. Ronald Presley [email protected] _________________________________________________________ DO YOU YAHOO!? My ancestors were from Chesterfield County, Va. My grandfather was Vernon C Rudd but I'm not sure who his father was. Vernon was born around 1881. 1. Silas(6) RUDD
    2. Joann H. Nichols
    3. Silas(6) Rudd [Jr.] was born 16 Nov. 1786, Middletown, Rutland Co., VT; parents were Silas and Phebe (Herrick) Rudd. By the 1810 census Silas [Jr.] appears to be married as he appears in Middletown with the following listing: one male 16-26, one female under 10, one female 16-26. In 1820, he is in Ira, Rutland Co., VT with one male under 10, one male 26-45, two females under 10, one female 10-16, one female 26-45. In 1830, he is back in Middletown, with one male 10-15, one male 40-50, one female under 5, two females 5-10, one female 10-15, one female 40-50. He sells his property in Middletown in March 1835 (MVR 7:212). At the time of signing he was of Granville, Washington Co., NY. He is listed in the 1835 Granville, Washington Co., NY census with two males, two females--one male old enough to vote, one female under 16. He is in the 1840 Burritt, Winnebago Co., IL census with one male 20-30, one male 50-60 and one female 50-60. I believe his wife may have been named Almina, as an Almina Rudd is a member of the Middletown Baptist Church, leaves that and joins a church in Granville and later leaves that. Silas got quite a lot of land in Burritt by federal land grants. I believe his son may have been named Chapman Rudd as a man by that names marries a Betsey Rodd, 29 Sept. 1842 in Winnebago Co., IL. He may have died in a few years as Mrs. Betsey Rudd marries Calvin A. Hemenway, 3 Sept. 1848, Winnebago Co., IL. Perhaps Almina's last name might have been Chapman??? I would like to know what happened to all the daughters of Silas and Almina Rudd. Some may have married back in Rutland Co., VT, one may have married in Granville, or I suppose they might all have died young. There appear to have been about six daughters and one son. I have more information on this family, if anyone is interested. Joann Nichols [email protected]

Probably at request of Joshua Hempstead, grandson of Phebe BROWNE through her daughter Elizabeth LARRIBEE, his aunt Jane (LEE)(HYDE) BURCHARD, wrote out a record of the BROWNE family. A transcription appeared in the "Register", 63[1909]:100: "A genealogy of my Mother taken from Aunt Barthard 1723 [illegible] following I took from my fathers Joshua Hempsteads Esq papers my Granmother was the Daughter of Old William Brown. he Lived in the County of Esex [sic] and town of Rusper in England. His occupation and reasons for coming to the New World are also unseen. Later, Joshua Hempstead says: "She [Mary (Lee) Riggs] was the 3d daughter to my uncle Lee who lived & died in Lyme & was the first of ys name there & came over a child with my Grandmother in the first Settlement of this Country. He had 2 sisters, one was mother of the family of Hides in Norwich & Lebanon #c. 1. Rudd Reunion, Arlington, VT
    2. Joann H. Nichols
    3. Hi, Cousins, I recently received a notice about the Rudd Family Reunion - the 53rd. This year's reunion will be held on Sunday, August 2, 1998 at the Arlington Lion's Recreation Park, Arlington, VT. The group photograph will be at 12 noon. This picnic will be rain or shine as there is a pavilion with grills available. Other amenities are: a 9 hole par 3 golf course, tennis, volleyball and swimming. So bring your golf clubs and swim suits and sunshine!! Please bring a coered dish, salad and/or dessert to share; and a place setting and beverage for yourself. After lunch we will have the Silent Teacup Auction for which we are requesting you bring an unwrapped gift. For our regular auction we need inexpensive, wrapped gifts marked for male/female, adult/child. Hope to see you there on Sunday, August 2, 1998 at the Arlington Rec Park!!!! Then there is a sketch of how to get there. Last year was the first year I went. I can't remember how the Silent Teacup Auction went; I know I didn't bring anything for either of the auctions. There isn't too much discussion of genealogy, but there is some during the business meeting. The majority of people attending are descendants of Joseph(4) and Sarah (Story) Rudd, but they welcome anyone interested. As this is not my line (I'm from Increase(4) and Bathsheba (Johnson)), I thought I might feel uncomfortable, but they were glad to get someone new with an interest. The return address of the person who sent the notice this year is Ernest Gehrer, 2599 Rt. 44/55, Gardiner, NY 12525. Perhaps you could get your name on the list for future reunions by contacting him. I hope to go again this year. Joann Nichols [email protected]

    1. Martha RUDD, and other Rudds!
    2. Joann H. Nichols
    3. Janet had wondered about this Martha Rudd born 5 Jan. 1802. The last time I was in Middlesex, I checked to see what I could find. Her father is listed as John Rudd, and it is recorded in Middletown, Vol. 1, p. 1, B&D. I found a marriage recorded in Middletown for a Mary Ann Rudd to an Andrew Youngs, 31[sic] Nov. 1839, by Orson Clark, j.p. Does anyone know who this is? A few weeks ago I was in the Bennington Town Clerk's office and found the following items in their town records, p. 269: Joseph Rudd and Sarah Story was joined together in the bonds of Matrimony by _________ on the 28 day of Sept. 1768. Selinda Rudd, the daughter of Joseph Rudd and Sarah, his wife was born the 6th Augt. 1769. Jeremiah Rudd, son to Joseph Rudd and Sarah, his wife, was born June 11th 1773. Sarah Rudd, daughter to Joseph Rudd and Sarah, his wife, was born 30th May 1775. Joseph Rudd, son to Joseph Rudd and Sarah, his wife, was born 13th April 1777. Lucy Rudd, son[sic] to Jospeh Rudd and Sarah, his wife, was born 10th March 1779. Enos Rudd, son to Joseph Rudd and Sarah, his wife, was born 12th March 1781. Martha [this might be Matthew] Rudd, son[?] to Joseph Rudd and Sarah, his wife, was born June 28, 1783. David Rudd, son to Joseph Rudd and Sarah, his wife, was born 16 March 1786.Bennington, 8th Jan. 1787, Mr. Joseph Rudd departed this life in the 79 year of his age. Died Jeremiah Rudd, son to Joseph Rudd and Sarah, his wife, on the 26th Sept. 1788 in the 16th year of his age. Sarah Rudd died Oct. 11 A.D. 1842. Joseph Rudd died May 25, 1813. [1818 is written after this] Page 271: 1778, Aug. 13, John Rudd and Chloe Hills were joined together in the Banns of marriage. 1779, June 10th, John Rudd, Jur, Son to John Rudd and Chloe, his wife, was born. 1780, Oct. 4th, Lois Rudd, daughter to John Rudd and Chloe, his wife, was born. 1782, July 12th, Cyprian Rudd, son to John Rudd and Chloe, his wife, was born. 1784, Novr. 28th, Semanthe Rudd and Amanda Rudd, Daughters to John Rudd and Chloe, his wife, was born. 1787, June 22nd, Erastus Rudd, Son to John Rudd and Chloe, his wife was born. 1789, Jan.y, Anson Rudd, son to John Rudd and Chloe, his wife, was born. All these various entries seem to have written at the same time. Joann
