Hi, Celia, I came home from work today to a large gold box on my porch! You are one terrific person. I plan to take them with me to work tomorrow in case I get a chance to look at them. I did glance at some mentions of Silas Rudd; of course, there is the wrong surname for Phebe. It's hard to believe that people just accepted that Davis could be her last name. Guess we can't trust anybody! Thanks again; I think I'll send you some more $$ to help cover postage at least. Best, Joann

Thanks for your help. The name is Rudd, not a variation. There also was a brother, James in Brattleboro, Vt. with 2 old maid sisters, names unknown. There is no easy way to do this. Thanks again, Bev

Hi, Cousins, Today I attended the Rudd Reunion in Arlington, Bennington Co., VT. It was a great day and I had a good time. This reunion was their 53rd; it was started by descendants of Joseph(4) and Sarah (Story) Rudd. So I was the only one not of that direct line. I found three people who now have e-mail, so I've sent them info on how to join the list. I think they may. One of them is Dorothy DuMond who wrote the book about Joseph and Sarah (Story) Rudd. Joann

Hello All---- BURLINGHAM RUDD III had several children with his wife MARY VAUGHN. Some of them were: ANDREW RUDD, born NC; WILLIAM VAUGHN RUDD, born NC; JAMES RUDD,born 1810, NC; JACKSON RUDD, born 1812, NC; ANDERSON RUDD, born 1816, NC; and others. After having all their children in North Carolina, BURLINGHAM and wife MARY move to Blount County, TN. My question is....does anyone know what happen to any of these children, especially JAMES RUDD ? Hi Joann, I believe you posted the second message as well - you were listing the children of someone and their known spouses. Hi, cousins, I looked up my Samuel Rudd chart and find that I have Mary Ann Rudd listed as marrying a Jackson Young; the information came from Rudd Branches, one of the manuscripts sent me by Celia. So I bet Andrew Youngs and Jackson Young are the same person! Joann
Hi, Celia, Interesting! Did I send the second message about Jackson Youngs? Or where did that come from? Do you suppose the guy's name could have been Andrew Jackson Youngs? It seems to have been a common thing to give names such as that after "famous" people. We have several descendants of Samuel and Mary (Ames) Rudd on the list. Let's ask them to do a roll call of which of Samuel's children they're descended from. Okay, cousins? Joann Celia G. Sorry, prematurely sent. working on a notebook for awhile and not used to it. anyway, my Rudd is Thomas Edward Rudd, poss. born in vt , no dates avail. but his son, Thomas Edward,Jr. was b.1849,d.1921. He died in Cassville, N.j. but may have been born in Vt. , although vt. does not have a birth cert. onhim. He married Jennie E. Stewart. Any hints? Again, sorry for the e-mail mix up. Joann, Please ignore that last message. Sento to wrong place.
Hi Joann, Happen to see your message about Samuel Stewart. I am looking for a Samuel but he was in N.J. approx 1820 on. Do not have dates or place of origin, but his daughter, Jennie E. Stewart b. 1848, was my gggrandmother. Would love to find out something on Samuel. Thanks in advance for any infor. [email protected]
Hi Cousins and Joann in particular, I was doing some updating of my database today and ran across Joann's message to the list, dated 7/2/98, where she passed along vital records information from Vermont. One of these was: "I found a marriage recorded in Middletown for a Mary Ann Rudd to an Andrew Youngs, 31[sic] Nov. 1839, by Orson Clark, j.p. Does anyone know who this is? Well, I'm wondering if this couldn't be the Mary Ann Rudd who was the daughter of Samuel Rudd and Mary Ames. In an another message to the list, this Mary Ann is reported to have married Jackson Youngs. I found it interesting that in both cases the surname is listed as YOUNGS. Could he have been Andrew Jackson YOUNGS? Thoughts? Celia

Vera Mae and the gang-- Interesting stuff on the Civil War. My great-great-grandad, Alonzo RUDD, served in the Illinois Militia, as did several other members of the Illinois branch of the family. Alonzo was wounded in the leg at the battle of Mission Ridge, Tennessee, and was out of action for 30 days before rejoining his company. One of the Erastus Rudds was killed in that war, I believe. Tell me more!!!! He was with Company K, however: and he mustered in from Jefferson County. His unit was associated with the Battles of Cold Harbor, Wilderness, the seige of St Petersburg, Spotsylvania and others. I believe that he mustered in late in the War, after Gettysburg. I'm also thinking that if the Rudd's were in Company A--they must have been in from the get go. I have a pamphlet called 'Bugles Echo Across the Valley', which list Oswego county units of 24th,81st,110th,147th and 184th Infantry units and 24th Cavalry. This book lists a couple of sources that might be helpful. the Adjutant General's Office has a series of 43 volumes with thumbnail service records for each man. The Onondaga (Syracuse) and Albany libraries have a full set of Annual reports as these are called.(New York State of course) Two other books are Frederick L Phisterer's, NEW YORK IN THE WAR OF THE REBELLION,1861-1865, which are released in different year versions. If I get the time???? That never happens Vera Mae
