    3. Hello, I am researching RUDD connections to HOYLE and EDWARDS families in Warren and Franklin counties, North Carolina. Primary interest is in William Lee RUDD (son of William Henry) who married (27 July 1825 in Warren Co) to Hannah (nee Dodson) HOYLE, widow of Timothy Hoyle. Hannah was older than William Lee Rudd. She was born 1794 in Nottingham, England. She and Timothy emigrated to Warren Co ca 1819 and are found in the 1820 census. In the 1850 NC Census, Warren County, Sandy Creek District, we find: household #38 William RUDD, 46 Rebecca Rudd, 22 Harriett Rudd, 11 Sally A. Rudd, 1 On either side of this William Rudd household are the households of: #37 - William HOYLE, 34, (& family) #39 - John D. HOYLE, 30, (& family) William and John D. Hoyle are sons of Hannah by Timothy HOYLE. I suspect the William Rudd, 46, in household #38, is Hannah's second husband, William Lee Rudd...and that Hannah has died prior to this 1850 census. I am not sure of the relationships of Rebecca, Harriett and Sally who are enumerated with this William Rudd. I do not know if they are children by Hannah......or if perhaps they are nieces or other relations of this William. Any clues or information from anyone would be greatly appreciated! Thank you, Sandy -- email: [email protected] http://home.earthlink.net/~sandyhb/ >

I have, so far, gotten a pretty complete list of Capt. James' and William Brooke's lines and, thanks to Hugh and Celia, a good start on Dr. Christopher's lineage. However, nothing on Richard. Any info would be appreciated. As always, anyone wanting the info I have is welcome to it. --Van Rudd Ann Arbor, MI

Another source has him buried in Green Mt. Cemetery. So far, cannot prove that this Thomas is father to my Thomas. Bev

    3. Hi Joann, The information from the Mary Amelia Rudd book came from Nancy Ryerson. This was part of the information she offered copies of a while back. I would like to receive the information on the Ames just to keep my database as complete as possible - thanks! Celia PS: Wasn't someone asking about Samuel Judson Rudd a while back. I'm going through my pile of papers (mostly emails) and extracting pertinent information. I ran across an email post I made on 2/15/98 regarding the descendants and ancestors of Samuel Judson Rudd. It was information transcribed from a huge chart created for the celebration of the 50th Wedding Anniversary of Herbert Ernest Rudd and Mayrella Windhorst Rudd, August 8, 1971, Tribune, KS. If someone wants this info, let me know. At 8:34 PM -0400 8/6/98, Joann H. Nichols wrote: >Hi, Celia, > >I should know probably, but where did you get the book by Mary Amelia >Rudd? 3. Me again! This is for folks who may be researching Rudds in New Jersey and New York. It's from "Records of the Rudd Family," Mary Amelia Rudd, 1920: pg. 266- "Another family of Rudds of a still later period derives descent from Joseph Rudd, of Bourton-on-Water, Glos., through his son Richard Rudd (1786-1852), who emigrated to America in 1815 and settled at Norristown, Pa., later moving to New York City. His wife was Mary (1782-1834), daughter and co-heiress of Wm. Hanwell, of Brize-Norton, co. Oxford. Four sons and one daughter, issue of this marriage, all married and left issue, so that his family became well established. The late Robert Schell Rudd, Esq. (1. Joseph, 2. Richard, 3. Joseph), a lawyer of New York City, was one of the better-known members of it, and a few years ago was Mayor of Glen Ridge, N.J." Celia

    3. Hi Cousins, I was just reading "Records of the Rudd Family," by Mary Amelia Rudd, 1920. The following is for those list members researching the Rudd name in Virginia, Maryland, Kentucky: "Infrequent references to Rudds in Virginia indicate that at a considerably later date than the appearance of the name in New England it was introduced into the Southern Colonies. It is probable that this family connection originated in the person of William Rudd, who became Rector of Chuckatuck Parish, in Nansemond Co., Va., in 1703, where he remained such for many years. John Rudd, of Virginia, who advanced through various grades in the Naval Service from 1814 to 1862, and was retired in the latter year with the rank of Commodore, is supposed to have been a representative of this family. In 1752 the name appears in the neighbouring colony of Maryland in the person of Charles Rudd, of Piscatua. Whether he was of the Virginia family or of still another independent emigration is not known. He may have been related to James Rudd, of Maryland, who was born during the Revolutionary period and established a family of considerable consequence. Married to Susannah Brooke of a well-known connection, including the Roman Catholic Carrolls of Carrollton, this branch of the Rudds was also of that religious persuasion. James Rudd removed to Kentucky in 1706. his sons, Captain james, Dr. Christopher, Richard and William Brooke, were men of prominence. The first three all served in the Kentucky legislature and Christopher and Richard were both unsuccessful candidates for seats in Congress. Captain james Rudd, the eldest of these brothers, was one of the founders of Louisville, was connected with the government of that city for thirty years, and was one of its leading citizens and philanthropists. He died in 1867, leaving the following children: Sallie, wife of Colonel Thomas Ludwell Alexander, U.S. Army; Anna, wife of the Hon. Amos R. Taylor, of St. Louis, Me.; James Rudd, of Owensboro, Ky.; Dr. Richard Rudd, of Paris (France); Chas. P. Rudd, of Wisconsin; John D. Rudd, of Louisville; and Thomas S. Rudd, of Arkansas."
