    1. 1850 census, Joliet, Will Co., IL/Rudd

    3. Hi, cousins, especially Kevin, Kevin, I'm sure you've told me the children of your Barak and Livonia (Atwood) Rudd, but would you tell me ONE more time! We may have discussed this census I copied some time ago: 1850, Joliet, Will Co., IL: taken Oct. 2, 1850: 95/99 B. Rudd 37 M Farmer 1000 VT Levina Rudd 25 F VT [is this age correct?] Wm. 11 M IL sch. Amy 14 F NY sch. Alonzo 8 M IL sch. Adelia 6 F IL sch. Charles 5 M IL Sophronia 2 F IL Marcus Atwood 16 M NY I am questioning Amy--is she the daughter Milton lists as Emma? This could only be Livonia's daughter if Livonia's age is wrong in this census. In fact, it would be sort of a feat to have William be her son! Hope this isn't too confusing! I told Cheryl that perhaps Amy was a missing daughter of Vincent, but that was considering Livonia's age as being correct. Thanks, Joann

Maybe you can forward this for me. I'm still working on Vincent Rudd. I really believe that he is Asa's father. This is what I have deduced so far. In the 1830 census, Vincent was living in Onondaga Co., NY. He was married and had two sons and one daughter under the age of 5. I assume he was married around 1825. In the 1840 census he was living in Switzerland Co., IN and had one son 5-10, two sons 10-15, two daughters under 5 and one daughter 5-10. In the 1850 census, Vincent is in Will Co., IL living with William and Mary Nelson. I belive Mary is his oldest daughter. There is also an Erastus Rudd, age 6 in the household. I believe this is Vincent's youngest son. My theory is that Vincent's wife died either in childbirth with Erastus or when he was very young. By 1850, all of Vincent's children except Erastus were sent to live with Aunts and Uncles. Asa, age 18 went to live with Aunt Olive and Asa McDonald. Asa would have been the son 5-10 in the 1840 census. The oldest son John, age 22, went to live with his uncle Barak. The second son Benjamin, age 21, went to live with his Uncle Sanford. The youngest daughter Olive, age 15, was living with O.W. Stillman. There should be another daughter but I don't know who she is. There is a marriage listed for Vincent Rudd in 1848 to Rhoda Crocker. This may have been a second marriage for Vincent but something must have happened between 1848 and 1850 since Vincent is living with his daughter then. I can't find any trace of Vincent after the 1850 census. I believe that the youngest son Erastus is living with his uncle Erastus in the 1860 census. With seven children, you would think that there is another descendent somewhere who is researching this family. There are so many new members. Does anyone recognize any of these people? 3. Joann-- I have links on my website to WinZip and PKZip. I'll clue you in when I get the files uploaded as to how to get the program to work on them. Thanks for the tip on Milton's info. Frankly, some of the stuff he sent had some incorrect dates and info, so I'm being fairly cautious about relying on it. I just thought that he might have a few tidbits that we didn't, and maybe they'd help us find more. -----Original Message----- From: Joann H. Some of the items he would have sent you regarding Silas, Jr. and wives, Almina and Nancy Ann, came from me. Probably the information regarding Joel came from me; however I didn't have 1856 as a date of death. He is an ancestor of our Doug Rudd, and we know Joel was still living in 1883 as he's on a list of veterans of the War of 1812. I don't find him in the veteran's census of 1890, but that might just be for Civil War veterans. Perhaps you should ask him for citations for the items you question. I also have received another letter from him, and there's something in there that I question. When you get the correspondence all uploaded, you'll have to tell me how to unzip files! I don't have PKZip of any of those utilities. Best, Joann

    3. Hi cousins-- I just received some correspondence from Milton Rudd of Fernley, Nevada, the gentleman Joann put me in touch with. He sent me a fair amount of information on the descendants of William Rudd, Alonzo's brother. He also has a few pieces of information from on up the line that I wanted to share, in the hopes that they would provide new leads for us on filling in the gaps. He shows for Silas Rudd, son of Increase and Phebe Herrick, a son named Silas Rudd (1776-1856), who had two wives, Almina and Nancy Ann. I don't believe we had his death date, or the names of his wives. He also shows Joel Rudd's death date as 1856(younger Silas' brother). He shows a Johnson Rudd(1821-1855), son of David Rudd and Amy Hicks, with a wife named Jane (1825-1856), a second wife named Hanna Walker, and four children, Decoursey Rudd(1838-1874), Theodore Rudd(1840--1850/60), David Rudd(1848-1921), and Harry Lemartine Rudd(1852-1854). For Leonard Rudd and Sarah Depuy, he shows their son Alexander J. Rudd's wife as Mary (born 1827), and A.J. and Mary with a son Charles (born 1854). He also shows Leonard and Sarah with a daughter Maria(born 1825). For Erastus Rudd and Harriet Hill, he shows their son David Rudd with a wife named Sarah(born 1840), and their children, Otus(born 1860), James(born 1866), Milton(born 1868), Isabell(born 1870), Sandford(born 1872), Elias(born 1874), and Peter(born 1879). For Rossiter Rudd(born 1842) he shows wife Julia(born 1840)(possibly a middle or nickname for Jane Gregg), and that their son Mansfield's middle initial was J. According to Milton, Alonzo's brother's full name was William Henry Rudd(1839-1931). William had two wives, Rachel Pridemore and Elidia Ann Hayden(1841-1896). They had the following children: with 1st wife--Myrtle Rudd, Grace Rudd(born 1891), with 2nd wife--Elmer Ulesus Rudd(1865-1939), Marion Alberta Rudd(1863-1890), Clark Wilber Rudd(1870-1896), Jason Victor Rudd(1873-1937), Alfred Barak Rudd(1879-1896), and Paul Vivian Rudd(born 1875). For Lydia Rudd(born 1776), Milton shows her husband, Pitman Barker(born 1772). I'm going to be sending Milton a copy of a picture of the Rudd Brothers(William, Charles, and Alonzo) that I have posted on my website, and I will try to get a .gedcom file from him. If he's willing to send me one, and if it has more detailed information in it, I'll furnish it to whoever wants a copy. I have the correspondence files almost done and ready to post. I'll let you know when they're up, so those of you who haven't been with us that long can access the information we shared early on. Kevin K. 3. Hi, Helen, Good to hear from you! Your first message did go through; guess nobody had an answer! Have you been able to trace your Whites back from William Henry White? If you can go back a couple of generations, I might be able to help you. I have Vol. 1 of the Mayflower Five Generation books which included William White as a pilgrim; Peregrine White was his second son. I believe this book has been updated, but I don't have it. Those books only go to about the Rev. War. Joann Nichols [email protected] Helen Lathrop wrote: > Hi Rudd Cousins, > I'm new and have been reading all the postings. 2. Glenn, Yes I would like a copy of your and Randy's info on the Ames line. If you send it as an attachment send it to my ISP address "[email protected]" - maybe send it to that address anyway. How are you all? From what Aunt Ruth tells me I will be taking Priscilla's parent to the airport in a couple of weeks. Last night they went with us to the 100th anniversary of the Pine Meadows church. I was scheduled to comment on the time my father was pastor there which was in 1917-1919.. Can't say that I new much about it accept that he met and married my mother while there. I have seen his diary for that time but could't find it now. I am not sure where it is. 2. Hi Glenn, Yes I do believe I would like that as an attachment or download. How did your summer vacation turn out? Around here summers are too short, we never have enough time to do what we want. Guess that makes them that much more endearing. I've started putting our Roots mail into a Word document and then I print out each month-makes it easier to go into a notebook, I jsut don't read it as timely as I should. Our printer went down on us about two months ago, that's how I got started doing it. We couldn't be long without a printer so we now have a Canon 4400, it's the kind that turns into a scanner?? See what I can learn this time. The labor day storm that went thu here took our patio roof and punched a hole in the roof--just to keep us busy I reckon. C YA Vera Mae

    3. Hi, Dave, Sorry to hear about the death of your mother. The Rudd mail list of which I am a part started out with descendants of Jonathan Rudd of Old Saybrook, CT, but it has expanded to include other emigrants and just plain unknown ancestry of Rudd people. I have never heard of a Rudd Family group from Ontario, Canada. I am copying your message and my answer to the Rudd List in case someone else recognizes any information in your message. If you and/or your sister would like to join the list, let me know and I will let you know how to do it. Quite a few Rudd people from the Jonathan line went out to the Michigan area, so your mother (and you) could be connected to them. As you and your sister are able to find more information on your grandmother, Mae Rudd, I would be glad to try to help you get back further. By information, perhaps you can find some dates of birth, marriage, death, as well as places for her. Best regards, Joann Nichols [email protected] [email protected] wrote: > At approximately 6:45 PM 9/28/1998, Winifred L. Smith died at age 82 in > Plainwell, Mich.
