    3. Hi, Cousins, I have received a letter from a friend who is the Historian for the Vermont Mayflower Society. Someone is trying to join the Mayflower Society through the above line. I know some of you are descended from this line, but I can't seem to remember who. Would you let me know? My friend is trying to prove the ancestry of Experience; supposedly her parents were Randall Wheeler and Experience Alden. Do any of you have primary evidence of Experience Wheeler's birth? I gather that Experience Alden was a descendant of John Alden which would make descendants eligible to be part of the Mayflower Society. Thanks for your help, Joann Nichols [email protected]

    3. Hi Van, You're correct - Rogue Valley Genealogical Society. I believe it's in Medford, OR, or near there anyway. That's where I obtained all the documents on the Rudds. There is supposed to be more, I'm not sure if it's Rudd stuff or other family names. I need to get back with them regarding the missing page in one of the documents as well as ask about the additional info. 3. Hi, Doug, Kathy, and other cousins, According to Rudd Branches, which may or may not be right, Maverick (they have his name spelled Maveriah/Mervieh) was b. 28 Aug. 1796, in Middletown, VT, no death date, m. 14 Oct. 1819, VT to Maria/Marie Linsley (I have it as Lindsay) who was b. 1802 in NH. Children are listed as Harry/Henry Linsley Rudd, b. 21 June 1821, VT, d. 7 Aug. 1892, OR, m. 13 Nov. 1847 to Lydia Morrison who was b. 29 Jan. 1828, NH; James L. Rudd, b. 2 Dec. 1824, VT, d. 28 May 1908, MI, m. 29 Dec. 1853 Abigail Jones, b. 6 Jan. 1828, OH, d. 18 Jun ???, MI; Mary J. Rudd, b. 1827, NY, m. Henry Jones; Martha Ann Rudd, b. 1836 MI, d. Feb. 1853; Amelia Rudd, b. 1838 MI, m. ---- Whited. Rudd Branches is one of the manuscripts Celia got from the Rogue Valley Genealogical Society; it was compiled and edited by Thomas L. Clark, Jr. and is great for clues to follow lines. Anyone who doesn't yet have a copy of this, I bet Celia would photocopy hers for you--send money for photocopying and postage. 3. Hi, Didi, It was a custom, in New England anyway, to warn out newcomers so they would know that if they couldn't make it, the town wouldn't be responsible for them. It ended in VT about 1817. Many times families stayed and became valuable citizens of the community. Don't think Eunice was that lucky! There's an item in the Middletown Baptist Church records that she was accused of drinking and of slandering a brother (in the church). It was okay for brothers to bring charges against sisters, but not vice versa, I guess! When Eunice's husband, Zimri Warner died, she was left with five children between the ages of eight years and four months old. I don't blame her for being a bit distraught! When she got her dower or thirds of the property, it was only for during her lifetime. Times were tough back then. I hope now to pursue Elijah Scott through census records--maybe he lived until 1850--that would be great if I could find him then with the names of people in his household. Can't think of anything new on your Warner problem. But bet it turns up sometime! Joann Didi wrote: > Hi Joann, > This is Didi Bush.... and WOW.... she must of been bad...~smile~.. 1. Eunice (RUDD) (WARNER) SCOTT
    2. Joann H. Nichols
    3. Eunice is a daughter of Silas and Phebe (HERRICK) Rudd. She was married to Zimri Warner 24 June 1801, Middletown, Rutland Co., VT (MVR). He appears to have died prior to 3 April 1811 when an estate was opened for him in the Rutland District Probate Court. On 8 July 1811, Eunice was appointed guardian of five children, from 8 years to 4 months old. The children are (not known if this is age order): Nathan, Jerusha, Lucretia, Ester, Chloe. Vital records for Middletown shows Lucretia marrying Cyrus Gates, 4 Sept. 1825, in Middletown. In the Middletown Baptist Church records I learned that Eunice probably remarried to a Scott, but hadn't been able to find the first name of her husband. Today I believe I discovered who he was. In looking through Vol. 2 of Vermont Warnings Out, I found the following: All Rutland Co., VT towns: Warned out of Ira, p. 451, 13 Mar. 1810, Warner, Zimris[?], wife Eunice and family. Warned out of Tinmouth, p. 116, 3 Jan. 1812, Scott, Elijah. Warned out of Middletown, p. 139, 30 Oct. 1813, Scott, [blank] and his family. Warned out of Rutland, p. 43, 9 Nov. 1813, Scott, Elijah and wife. Warned out of Ira, p. 500, 10 Oct. 1815, Scott, Elijah, wife Eunice and family. Golly, guess no one wanted them! If anyone recognizes any of these people, please contact me. Joann Nichols [email protected]

    3. Hi, Vera, Thanks for your message--guess I didn't go far enough on Doug Bingham's page; I think it probably came from the Ancestry File (or whatever it's called) that the LDS has. According to Increase(6) Rudd's obit, he was a Custom House Officer[!!!] in the War of 1812. At that time he was living in the Middletown, Rutland Co., VT area. He died in 1872 and it said he had lived in Erie Co., NY for 40 years. That would mean he went out there in 1832. I doubt that as he had kids getting married back here in Rutland Co. into the middle 1830s. I've never found him in 1840. In 1850 he's living with a kid, in 1855, he's living with a kid, in 1860, 1865, and 1870 he's living with a kid. What a bugger! There's at least three discrepancies that he acknowledges with his information. Also what more can we find out about the Custom House? Erie County, NY is just an hour away for me, one only needs to point me in the right direction. Perhaps we've all heard of Buffalo NY? If that is the correct County and State, then the Custom House was of grave importance during the War of 1812. The Great Lakes region was very involved in that struggle. Of course if it was a county in Vermont--I'm all wet. Let me know. Vera Mae

    3. Hi, Heidi, I checked the URL and notice that the wife of Jonathan is listed as Mary Metcalf. NOT TRUE! Earlier we have discussed this on the list, but I guess Doug Bingham hasn't updated his page yet. Several women have been discussed as the possible wife of Jonathan, but none have been able to be proved. I don't remember who Mary Metcalf married, but it wasn't Jonathan Rudd.
