Your welcome, Dot. Incidentally, I recently came across a couple of other Woods sites you and the others might be interested in. They don't answer your question, but still give a lot of biographical information on the Woods ancestors. http://www.net1plus.com/users/bonjr/wood/d276.htm#P276 --Ebenezer Wood married Mary Rudd, this site gives their children. Click on Ebenezer's name and there is lots more information on his ancestry. http://www.wizard.net/~aldonna/rwe_a.htm --another interesting site with Wood connections, gives author Ralph Waldo Emerson's Ahnentafel, with 3 connections to the Rudd line (Thomas Emerson/Elizabeth Brewster, John Perkins/Judith Gator, Edward Wood/Ruth Mousall). http://www.net1plus.com/users/bonjr/ANCBONSR/d524.htm#P1227 --Gives Ebenezer Wood's parents, biographical information, and their ancestry. Mary Rudd was the daughter of Nathaniel Rudd and Mary Post, by the way. Glenn
Dear Glenn: Thanks so much for your info. It's the first positive help I've ever had on Adams. If you want to send me your name and address I'll mail you what info I have on Woods and the very little on Adams. I have the Woods back to Thomas (1). Appreciate your getting back to me so quickly. Thanks so much. Happy Hunting, Dot Rudd DuMond - P>O>Box 645, Port Ewen, NY 12466 (if you prefer to mail me your address.)
Hi Cousin Dot, Thanks for your note. Yes I have most of the people you mention, on my family tree program. Ebenezer Wood, Jr., died 15 Sep 1796 in Norwich, CT. I don't have his children listed other than Hepzibah, who my wife descends from (she is the Rudd in the family). Her Rudd/Wood/Fillmore ancestors did come from that area of Vermont, with others from Hoosick, NY. They settled in the Pulaski area of upstate New york. I can give you a potential lead on finding the information you seek, though. There is a book entitled " Early Settlers of Rowley, Massachusetts" that gives Thomas Wood/Ann's descendants, to John Wood, and Ebenezer Wood, Sr. and on. Someone sent me a copy of pages 410-413, with the information on Thomas and John, but the book continues on on those lines and I have not been able to find the time to get to the library to look up the book and see how much more is in it. They did not send me further reference information, but the title is unique enough it should be easy to locate a copy, especially in your part of the states. If you find a copy and it is helpful, please let me know. Do you have much more information on the Wood line? (Ebb's ancestors) Glenn
Welcome, Dot! Glad to have you on the Rudd Mail List. Dear Glenn: You have my line down through Ebenezer Wood and Mary Rudd. They had Beulah whose brother Ebenezer married Phillipa Story. Ebb and Phillipa had Andrew Wood who married Abagail Adams. I'm completely stuck with trying to find Abigail's parents. Have been told repeatedly she has to be part of THE Adams family in the NE, but can't find her. Neither can I find mention of the deaths of Ebb and Abigail, for sure. Are you from the Bennington, Vt area where the Woods, Rudds, and Fillmores lived on Pleasant Valley Rd., off of Route 9, just over the N.Y.S. line in Benn- ington? My home for my first 23 years was about 3 miles south of that in Hoosick, N. Y. However, the Pleasant Valley area has always seemed to be of much more importance to me. Deja Vou (sp)? Hope this reaches you. I'm new to the I.B.M. compatible computer - could make my Apple do just about anything, but am not picking this up by myself as easily as I did the Apple. Of course being 81 might have something to do with it, but I don't admit to it. Happy Hunting! Dot DuMond

Hi, Vera Mae, That would be great! According to my MF friend, Randall Wheeler died at Springfield Township, Erie Co., PA 2 June 1837, so if you can look for probate and/or land records . . . I haven't checked to see what the county seat town is. Joann [email protected] wrote: > Hi Joann, > I am only an hour from Erie County, NY, will have to check a map for Erie > County, PA. Hi Joann, I am only an hour from Erie County, NY, will have to check a map for Erie County, PA. The city of Erie,PA is close to NY and Ohio, if I recall correctly--will see what I can do. Vera Mae
In my search for additional information on Erastus Rudd and Experience (Wheeler) Hobart, I, last night, checked my CD census indexes. Erastus and Experience seem to have had some children born in Springfield, Erie Co., PA, mostly in the 1820s. I discovered that Randall Wheeler (perhaps Experience's father) was there in the 1830 census, on page 336, if anyone has access to this. There probably were more than one Randall Wheeler, as in 1830, 1840, 1850, there is one in Danville, Caledonia Co., VT. I'm thinking that the one in PA in 1830 is probably worth checking out. If anyone lives near Erie Co., PA, maybe you could check with the probate office, or land records office, to see if there are any records for Randall Wheeler that might give a clue to his children. Of course, this Randall might be a son of the Randall that is supposed to be Experience's father, but worth checking anyway! Joann Nichols

Hi Bev, Well, there are several folks on the mail list who can help with the Connecticut Rudds. Can you give us some details on what you have? Then, we can go from there. My line also originated in Connecticut; I just printed out a report of the information I have on my Rudd line and even after formatting to save space, it comes to about 130 pages single-spaced. We'll be glad to help! Celia At 9:25 PM -0500 10/30/98, [email protected] wrote: >Celia, > >Finally traced my Rudds to Connecticut, not VT. Celia, Finally traced my Rudds to Connecticut, not VT. Do you know much about the CT. group, or know of someone who does? As always, thanks, Bev
Hi, Denise and other cousins that may not know the answer either! In early New England anyway, towns sort of automatically informed newcomers that if they couldn't make it on their own, the town wouldn't be responsible for them. Many times they stayed and became valuable citizens of the town. Not sure about Eunice and her husbands, though! My Increase and Lydia Rudd were warned out of both Middletown and Ira at various times. Thanks everyone for the info on MARVERICK/MAVERICK. His gravestone reads : MARVERICK RUDD d. Nov 3, 1865 Aged 76yrs It is located in the Pioneer Cemetery in Myrtle Ck, Douglas, Or. His age at time of death doesn't match with the 1796 birthdate, but neither does the name--so who knows. I hope to pursue this further. I have yet to find anything about where his wife died. None of the family remembers hearing anything about her. The Oregon Census (1860) for Douglas Co. lists: MACK RUDD 64/ m Vermont MARIAH 57/ f Vermont Do you think there is a chance she (Mariah) moved down to the Rough Valley (Medford area) to be with her relations after her husband died? Thanks again Kathy [email protected]
Hi Kathy, I notice the census data does agree with the 1796 birthdate. Looks like we have a mystery on our hands - either the census or the gravestone is wrong. Or, there's a possibility of more than one Maverick Rudd. What fun!
