    3. Seek parents, birthplace and birth date of Hugh Rowland who settled in Old Saybrook in the state of Connecticut about 1652. He apparently came with his brother, who settled in Fairfield, also in Connecticut. Historian Henry R. Styles states they probably came from the English county of Essex. Hugh Rowland, born about 1636, died in Lyme, Connecticut in 1678.

    3. Reference the 2002 archive <<Only just received this message as I am travelling. My ROWLAND family came from Lingwood in Norfolk and I have records from the time of the first Elizabeth that probably relate to them. They also probably spread to surrounding villages. Other names: HOWES, WEST, MALLETT. If anybody has any querries I won't be back in NZ until end October. Cheers, Shirley >> My great grandfather EDWARD ROWLAND was born Lingwood 1847 (other names WEST, MALLETT, DAWES). He moved to Bishopwearmouth, Durham. His great grandfather was John Rowland who married Sarad Dawes 1747 and was buried in Buchenham. I am in the process of trying to determine more details about his father JOHN ROWLAND. If you are still online Shirley, I would like to hear from you. Peter Barker Rowland Hereford

    3. Hi, I think I have just replied to you in Genesreunited, my Rowland family were in the same Aldford area but over 100 years later. At the time you are looking, they were either in Wirral (my Dad's family -West Kirby then Bidston area) or Nottingham (Basford, 1800) then Caernarfon, then Ireland then Liverpool then Chester by 1860s (Mum's family). Both same surname, but unrelated and ending up in same area. I now live in Chester, although the family had been all over the country in the 140 years since they last lived in Hoole and Upton. Small world. I don't think either of my Rowland branches connect with the one you are researching. Have you been in touch with Charles / CC Rowland? He has Rowland family from Chester that are not connected with mine, but might be with yours.
