Just thought I'd add a bit from my files regarding the WISHON family, from the 1850 Davie County census and other records: Husband: Joseph WISHON - ------------------------------------------- Death: About 1842 - ------------------------------------------- Wife: Barbara ATHON - ------------------------------------------- - ------------------------------------------- Children... - ------------------------------------------- 1. M Child: Samuel Alexander WISHON Birth: About 1834 Place: Surry/Yadkin Co. NC Burial: Place: Mt. Olive United Methodist, Yadkin Co. NC Spouse: Jane Carnetta SIZEMORE Marriage: 25 Sep 1856 Place: Davie Co. NC [bond date] Living with William Perry and his family, Davie Co. 1850, listed as age 14; however, article 1106 by Joyce Braswell in Davie Co. Heritage says that he was born about July 1834. This article states that he died after 7 July 1902 but before 1910. He served in Company I, NC 28th Regiment, in the Confederate Army. Children's names from the same article. 1860 Davie County census, transcript page 68, household 538; Farmington district Sam'l Wishon 25 Jane 21 Martha 3 Bettie B. 3/4 Barbery Wishon 46 Rebeca Wishon 20 - ------------------------------------------- 2. F Child: Sarah WISHON Birth: About 1837 Place: Surry Co. NC Spouse: John Franklin GRAVES Marriage: 26 Aug 1857 Place: Davie Co. NC [bond date] Age 13 in 1850, living with Jacob C. and Mary Miller - ------------------------------------------- 3. F Child: Rebecca WISHON Birth: About 1840 Place: Surry Co. NC living with William Perry and his family, Davie Co. 1850 - ------------------------------------------- 4. F Child: Rhoda Jane WISHON Birth: About 1844 Place: Surry Co. NC Spouse: Allen Milton POTTS Marriage: 14 Nov 1867 Place: Davie Co. NC [bond date] Living in household of Eleanor Foster in 1850; with Thomas and Winnie Hill in 1860. Rhoda's marriage bond identifies her as the daughter of "Josiah" and Barbara, rather than Joseph. Husband's Notes... - ------------------------------------------- Notes: Four Wishorn children, all born Surry County, appear in the 1850 Davie County NC census, scattered among three families: Rhoda age 6 is living with Eleanor Foster age 86, Sarah Foster 39 and Henderson and Louisa Foster both age 21. Samuel Wishorn age 14 and Rebecca Wishorn age 10 are with William and Mary Perry and their family. Sarah Wishorn age 13 is with Jacob and Mary Miller. An article in Davie County Heritage, 1997, page 353-354, by Joyce R. Braswell, gives details of this family. She spells the name Wishon, whereas it is Wishorn in the 1850 census. I have changed the spelling here to correspond to her article. She names Joseph's wife as Barbary Athan, and says that they were living in the part of Surry Co. that later became Yadkin. After Joseph's death, the children were placed with families in Davie County, although their mother was still living. Wife's Notes... - ------------------------------------------- Notes: She survived her husband, but remained in Yadkin County when her children were dispersed to live with families in Davie County, where they appear in the 1850 census. In 1860 she was living with her son Samuel and his family in Davie. Elizabeth Harris state coordinator, NCGenWeb http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncgenweb/
