    3. Hi all, JENKINS, Richards, Moyle, Pascoe, Gribble, Tyack -- these are among the names found on the 1850 and onwards censuses of Gold Hill, Rowan County. These are names of Cornish miners who came to Gold Hill (and surrounding mining areas) to work the mines. Some stayed....some moved onwards to other strikes in other states. North Carolina's gold rush preceded California's. The family of William Jenkin (enumerated as JINKINS) and wife, Elizabeth (nee Richards) were among these. The census lists them as "born in England," but most of the graves at Gold Hill Methodist Churchyard specify they were "Born in Cornwall." William (b 1819) and Elizabeth (b 1822) Jenkin(s) came to Gold Hill ca 1848. Their children were as follows: 1. Mary Ann ("Molly") - b 1845 in Illogan, Cornwall - married (1865) to J.L. McANLESS; 2. John William - b 1849 in Gold Hill, married (1883) to Grace Ann EARNHARDT 3. Jane E. (b 1851 in Gold Hill) married (1871) to William H.H. BANGLE 4. Elleanor (b 1851, Jane's twin) married (1873) to Drewery Lovelace PARKER (son of Richard) 5. James H (b 1854) married (1881) Laura V. ROUSE (daur of John & Elizabeth) 6. W.T.R. (William Thomas Rufus) - (b 1857) married Margaret Ann NORTHERN 7. Catherine Depasi - (b 1859) - never married If you have ancestors from CORNWALL who came to Rowan County....or if you have any connection to the above family, please contact me. The JENKIN(s) Family is online at: http://members.home.net/teylu/jenkins/ There is information about the gold mining at: http://members.home.net/teylu/jenkins/gold_nc.html Kind regards, Sandy teylu@home.com >
