    3. Jo Ann and Interested Dedmon/Deadman Researchers One point to remember when researching the name "Polly". Polly is usually a nickname for Mary. In my data I have Polly Lincoln Dedmon and her husband, Thomas Dedman (Deadman) IV, moving from Burke County (now Mitchell County) North Carolina to Walker County, Georgia in 1846. William and Margaret Dedmond went with them. Mark Dedmon was the bondsman at the wedding of Thomas Dedmon and Polly Linkhorn. Polly Linkhorn's given name was Mary. In the beginning, the name was spelled "Deadman". It changed a lot from Census takers getting it wrong and some Deadmans changed the spelling so that their mail wouldn't get confused with all the other Deadmans. So many of them had the same first, traditional names. My Deadmans finally became Deadmonds when they migrated to Illinois. Thanks Lois :------------ORIGINAL MESSAGE---------- : Dear Billy, Melanie, and Lois; : : Thanks, Billy, for the interest in this Lincoln/Smith mystery. You can : imagine how glad I was to find a Smith in my family tree! Even Lincoln : is a difficult name to research in NC. : : Let me clarify one point...I don't think that Polly Linkhorn/Lincoln : Dedmon was the mother of Jacob Wolf. It appears that she was a : sister-in-law to the Polly Dedmon that Melanie has been seeking. I just : wanted to warn you that there were at least two women with that name in : the same area at the same time. Polly Lincoln Dedmon moved to Walker : County GA and Rev. Leroy Dedmon may be her descendent. : : I see that Sandra (siwel@bellsouth.net) has responded to your postings : saying that she has Dedmons in northern GA and I intend to write to her. : : Thanks for your prompt answers and your interest. Again, if you learn of : descendents of Polly Linkhorn/Lincoln Dedmon, I would like to know about : them. Please feel free to give them my name and email address. : : I would also love to learn more about the John Lincoln who was in Stokes : County NC in 1790. The story in our family is that he was an orphan who : may have been living with or near other Lincoln/Boone relatives in VA and : NC. His listing as "John Linkhorn" in the 1790 census is all that I know : about him. At this point, I don't know if this John Lincoln was Polly : Lincoln Dedmon's father or her brother. : : Thanks for your interest in my mystery. : : Jo Ann Johnson Locher :
