Dear Sandy, I think the given name for Casper Bolch most likely came from the old German practice of giving children a saint's name, usually as a first name followed by the name, sometimes also a saints name, by which the child was actually called. His full name was Johan Caspar Bolch. According to tradition, Caspar/Gaspar was one of the Three Magi (the others being Melchior and Balthasar, which also were used as given names in German families). The name also gets transmuted to Jasper. The Bolch family came from the Vosges Mountains region in Alsace-Loraine according to a notation in an old family Bible. The Barger family in Lincoln County, NC was not related to the Berrier/Berger/Barger family in Davidson County. The Lincoln (now Catawba) County family descends from Simeon Barger, of English extraction. He was a Quaker and came to Lincoln County from Berks County, PA. Most of his descendants, though, did marry Germans! Best regards, Ray Yount ________________________________________________________________ YOU'RE PAYING TOO MUCH FOR THE INTERNET!
