Some time back I posted a query with the Rowan Co will of John MORROW who had two daughters who married James Davis Sr and James Davis Jr, but not father and son. I've just returned from Greene County, Illinois, where these two Davis families were by 1835, with some additional information that may prove helpful to some of you. Let me say I'm not firm on any of this information; I'm just beginning to put families together. I visited the Greene County Historical Society, courthouse and a few cemeteries. I gleaned information from two Greene County Histories and a Greene County Atlas from the 1870-1880 time period, plus land, census, cemetery, court and newspaper records. Jeff Davis [all the above births and deaths are from Bible record pages; marriages from a contributed chart, but I've not been able to find any but the first (w/date) in the IL Marriages database] The "Jones Cemetery" is interesting. Joshua Jones, wife Elizabeth, also came from North Carolina and purchased land in 1835. He set aside the acreage for the cemetery when his wife died in 1837. I found no burial record for Joshua but Elizabeth was born about 1783. There is an "Allen Cemetery" about 1 1/2 miles from "Jones". There are burials for the Allen, Jones, Morrow, Davis families in both cemeteries but I think "Jones" is probably slightly older. "Allen" is on land purchased by James Morrow Allen in 1836. I think the following burials at "Jones" are for someone other than members of the two families I've detailed here..... James Davis, Aug 1848, 78 yrs.
