I'm compiling information about my German families who settled mostly along the Dutch Second Creek in Rowan County prior to the American Revolution. Some of the names are: Jacob FRICK, Georg EHRENHARDT [Earnhart], Veronica WILDT, and Michael TREECE [Dreiss]. I am particularly interested in learning the names of the spouses of the children of these ancestors. Most of the marriages probably took place in the early 1800s to about 1835. Among the surnames are: McMACKIN, CASPER, HARTLINE, MOWERY and FREEZE. Is anyone else familiar with any of these German families and care to exchange information? --Myra Vanderpool Gormley, CG
Myra, I don't know the spouses names but the Fricks, Earnharts and Treece families in Rowan County had children who moved to Union County, Illinoois. In fact the earlly settlers of Union County, Illinois came from Rowan County. I have Michael Hartman Dillow, Holshouser, Powless, Rinehart, Hileman, Hoffner, Davis, Knupp lines in Rowan that came to Union County, Illinois. Thanks for the tips and leads. I am familiar with my German families that removed to Union County, Illinois in 1823+ -- I am most interested in learning about any church records that might exist for these German families who lived along the Second Creek. What about cemetery records? Have the survived for any of these Rowan County pioneers or their descendants? --Myra Vanderpool Gormley, CG
Myra, Sorry, but I forgot to mention that Casper, Hartline, Mowery and Freeze names came from Rowan to Union County, Illinois also. All of these families plus the ones I named in my prior answer to you were early settlers of Union Co., IL. Everyone of those families are plentiful in Union County, IL. Thanks again Myra for your continued dedication to genealogy, Rootsweb & Muskogee Gen Soc. I continue to keep my ear to the ground for our Abraham VPL in 1700s Hardy Co, WV. I continue to research my Rowan Co, NC German families DOTTERER/DETRO, CLEMMER, & YOUNG that were in the area bet Mocksville and Bear Cr 1780- present. Some time ago I also researched the numerous YOUNG families that lived out in the numbered Cr area ca 1800 in hopes of connecting to my dead end gf Peter YOUNG. Unfortunately, I do not show any of your mentioned German families. Dear Hal, I believe that we discussed the Rusk family. Do you know what nationality they were? Have you gone back any further than the Rusks in the Winchester area? When I was working on that line someone had the idea that the Rusks came into PA. Do you know?
