You've gotten some great information from others, but I think you need to remember that GEDCOMs "happen" and that like when you use your washing machine you need to know the basic instructions (how much soap, etc.), you don't need to really know how the machine is configured (electrical systems and all that). A long way of saying, relax and enjoy using your software and don't get overwhelmed. Best wishes! Cary
