I am looking at FHC Film #1605617 and #1605618 which are part of the loose estate papers of Rowan County, North Carolina. This is a series of films that the LDS did many years ago and is done by surname. The end of film #1605617 starts the Cowan surname and goes through Cowan, Jean. The next film starts with Jean Cowan and goes to the end of the Cowan records. I have been looking at them and trying to place all the Cowans that are in the files for I figure that they are all kin to me some how or can be identified by using Flemings - Cowan From County Down or CCD. Now there are some papers that seem to be miss filed or they cause one to wonder why they are in the file that they are in, but who am I to say that they don't belong there!!! <g> This film shows the outside of the folder, then opens it for you and lets you see all the pages within that file. Caldwell D.A.D N.L.H J.K.G Well, in typing in this group, I figured out who they are and how they fit in to CCD. They are on page 178. I refuse to trash this post for some of you may have more to add that will help me. John Cowan 1757-1827 that married Jean Young in 1785. They had 9 children. Their child James married Nancy L. Gillespie in 1827 and had 4 children. Their child Robert Theophilus Cowan that married Margaret Catherine Knox in 1859 was the Robert in the Guardian form above - I think that there is a folder on R.T. Cowan and I wasn't sure who he was, but what else is new????This Robert T. Cowan was b. 4-9-1838 d. 6-30-1862 in Richmond, VA from wounds received in the Battle of Seven Pines. So it is son - James Leonidas Cowan b. 8-4-1860 d. 4-23-1921 m 11-3-1896 Mary Elizabeth Mills b 10-17-1868 d 7-14-1919 and daughter Zulia R. Cowan b. 8-15-1862 d. 2-8-1939 m 10-10-1889, Robert Cowan Knox b. 9-12-1853 d. 1-19-1931 [this was a second marriage and he is also found on page 172 of CCD, but Fleming does not tell me with simple searching who the parents of Robert Cowan Knox are, but I bet he was already kin!] I did not see a Robert Knox that would be old enough to sign this guardian paper in 1864, but wondered if he was maybe father of the Robert Cowan Knox that married Zulia R. Cowan. Does anyone know the Neely family or this Robert Cowan Knox??? Any help would be wonderful!!!
