N.C. Hey you Guys on rowanroots, I need some HELP! I have been researching my Barger heritage for the last several years and because of my health ( lung cancer) and age (75) I have not been able to work on it for sometime. I can't get out and beat the bushes like I use to do so I need some help. I ran across rowanroots on my email and after reading your comments I through I give it a try.Hope you Guys have some knowledge on what I looking for. I'm looking for information on my great grandfather, Moses Jeremiah Barger ,such as, where he was born, who was his mother and father, where did they live, did he have any brothers and sisters. I have not been able to find any of this information. I have hit a dead end. I located Moses Jeremiah family Bible ,which is well over 100 years old, and in the Bible it was recorded he was born March 15,1840 and died February 11,1898. This was confirmed when I located his grave site at the Organ Lutheran church cemetery in Rowan Co.. In the Bible it was stated that he joined the Confederate army in Salisbury N.C. in 1861 and was discharged 1865 also in Salisbury. I wrote and got a copy of his miltary records hoping to find a parents name and a home address but no luck .Can this be found on any State or County records? Shortly after being discharged he married Elizabeth Beaver on July 26 ,1865. Elizabeth was born August 26,1842 and died January 16,1910. The marriage Bond was issued in the Cabarrus Co.. Since the Bond was from Cabarrus I have been told ,back in thoses days, the bride lived in the county were the bond was issued. If this is true she probably was born and raise in Cabarrus county. I need information on her also.! The Bible listed 6 of their 9 children and they are Martin L. Barger , born may 06,1866 and died September 18,1868. Sousen Francis L. Barger , born April 17,1868 and died ?. Ellen L. E. Barger, born July 27,1870 and died August 24,1941 Leah D.A. Barger , born August 07,1872 and died December 25,1929. Ollie Ginnette Belle Barger , born April 14,1875 and died?. Jimmie Ichabod Barger , born December 29,1876 and died March 24,1951. The 1880 census listed one additional child, one year old Madie E. Barger also I learn from relatives that there were 2 more children. William Willie Samel Barger, born February 12,1881 and died April 26 1946 Perly Gustie Kate Barger, born February 07,1885 and died September 18,1941 The 1870 census listed Moses J. and Elizabeth living in Gold Hill -Rowan Co.,N.C. He was a carpenter. Living with them was one child Sousen and Loudinia Yost a 45 year old widower. I have no ideal who Loudinia was. Its possiable she was Moses or Elizabeth widwer sister. In the 1880 census they were still living in Gold Hill along with several of there children and Loudinia who last name was now spelled Youst. Since Moses Jeremiah died in 1898, the1900 census listed only Elizabeth and 3 of her children Jimmy, Willie and Perlly living in Gold Hill. I have been able to trace the boys and their families but the girls I have very little on, this is another area were I need some help. The Bible did list those who were married at the time and they are, Jimmy I. who is my grandfather and he was born and raise in Gold Hill .He married Maude Alice Lefier and they lived and raised their children in Faith N.C. There children were Rita, Moses James (Jack), Marvin Lee( Fritz), Loy Lefler, Walter Wayne, George Vernon. Jimmy while living in Faith was a stone cutter. Later he moved his family to Kannapolis N.C. and work for Cannon Mills. All of Jimmy children are deceased. William Willie Samuel also was born and raised in Gold Hill. He married Mamie Eleaner Peeler and they live in Faith N.C. He was a partner in a hardware Store in Salisbury. In 1925 he bought from A.V. Sloop a grocery store in Kannapolis and in 1926 moved his family there. He operated the store untill 1945 when his sons P.A. and M.J. took over. His children were Wlllette, P.A., Mary Elizabeth and M.J.. Two of the children are still living. Ellen L.E. Barger married Henry Sifford on September 15,1889. This was confirned in Genealogy.com N.C. 1850-1900 Marriage Index The 1900 census listed Henry age 40 and Ellen age 29 living in Barnhardts-Gold Hill, Rowan Co. N.C.and they had 4 children , Mary E. Sifford age 10, Loula E. Sifford age 7, Lewis W.Sifford age 5 and Henry J. Sifford age 1month. The 1910 census listed Henry age 50 and Ellen L.E. age 39 living in Gold Hill and their children were Cula E. Sifford age 16, Lewis W. Sifford age 14, J. Henry Sifford age 10, I think Loula and Cula are the same person. The 1920 census listed only Ellen age 49 and a daughter Nellie C. Sifford age 9 living in Gold Hill.and the 1930 census had them still living in Gold Hill. Ellen's age was listed as 59 , Nellie was 19. According to the Bible ,Ellen died August 24,1941. Leah D.A. Barger married Adolpus Castor or [Caster ]on January 4,1891. The Bible spelled the name Costor and the census spelled it Castor but under the Family Group Records it was spelled Caster. The names and ages of the children are the same under both spellings. Leah's name was spelled Lear in the census. It looks like the h when being recorded was written like an r. In the 1910 census it listed Leah and Adolphus living in Litaker ,township in Rowen Co. Leah was 37 and Adolphus was 45 and the children were Nora L. Castor age 18, Rodle J. Castor age 16, Henry M. Castor age13. Also living with them was a sister inlaw Pearl A. Barger age 25 and a nephew Lusian Barger age 6. Pearl is problemly Leah's sister Perly. The 1920 census Listed only Adophus age54 and Leah age 47. In genealogy. com under North Carolina Marriage Index I found a William A. Basinger married to Susan F.L. Barger on march 2,1890. I have not been able to comfirned if this is Moses Jeremiah daughter. Hope someone out there knows. The Bible listed Perly G.K. Barger married name as Clark but I have nothing on her. This is a quick summary of Moses Jeremiah immediately family. Hoping some of you can help me out with this. I have been told by my uncle ,before he passed away, that the Barger in Catawa Co. is not related to Moses Jeremiah or my side of the Bargers. I don't know. Can any of you Guys give me some hints as to the best way to check old deeds and tax records. Also are there any other sites I can look at to find what I need.and are there any reasonable researcher in Rowan and Cabarrus Co. who can assist me. The sites I have been refering to are the census, ancestry.com and the family search.org. Also do you know were I can buy , borrow ,or steal the book Rhinelanders on the Yadkin by Carl Hammer Jr. Thanks Bucky Barger ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to ROWANROOTS-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message ________________________________________________________________________ More new features than ever.
