The men who were executed after the Battle of Alamance in 1771: James FEW ~ was executed west of Hillsborough, North Carolina on May 17, 1771, after taking part in the Battle of Alamance. James was hanged at the militia's camp approximately five miles northeast of the Alamance battlefield. Robert MATEAR ~ was not involved in the Regulator movement, but was accidentally caught up in Governor Tryon's revenge. He was hanged on 19 June 1771. Benjamin MERRILL ~ was a leader of the Regulator movement. He was hanged on 19 June 1771 for his involvement. Captain MESSER ~ was hanged on 19 June 1771 for his involvement. James PUGH ~ was a leader in the Regulator movement. He was hanged on 19 June 1771 for his involvement. Two "Unknown" Regulators ~ no one seems to know the names of these two men, they were also executed on 19 June 1771. ********************************************* The six men who were pardoned: William Brown ~ was condemned to death at Hillsborough for his involvement but reprieved. James Copeland ~ was condemned to death at Hillsborough for his involvement but reprieved. Herman Cox ~ was condemned to death at Hillsborough for his involvement but reprieved. James Emmerson ~ was condemned to death at Hillsborough for his involvement, but was reprieved. Forrester Mercer ~ was condemned to death at Hillsborough for his involvement, but was reprieved. James Stewart ~ was condemned to death at Hillsborough for his involvement, but he was reprieved.
