Diane, In the book "Rowan County North Carolina Index of Loose Estate Papers 1750-1927" by June Clodfelter Watson, there are the following BURKE'S (the dates are death dates): Abner 1841 Henry C. 1841 (See Estates: Mary Burke 1842) Elizabeth W. 1856 Hiel 1841 (See Estates: Mary Burke 1842) Mary 1842 John P. 1852 Margaret 1847 Thomas A. 1891 William 1843 Burkee, Benjamin P. 1866 What I did with my RICE surname was to order all of the papers for that name to find what I wanted. Copies of the estate papers can be ordered from the NC Archives in Raleigh. I believe copies may be in the Rowan County Library in Salisbury. So, I am trying to identify every Burk(s) in Rowan Co from 1795 to 1805. So far I have only found an Edward and possibly a John. If you have any ancestors that where from Rowan Co., NC in the 1795 to 1805 time frame I would appreciate that information.
