The Adams and Schmidt/Smith families in the original?post are my ancestors.? Both the Adams and the Smith's were German, I have done much research on them in both Lancaster County, PA and Rowan County, NC.? 1. Peter and Barbara Schmidt/Smith 2. Eve Schmidt/Smith m. John Adams (1729 PA-1762 NC) 3. John Adams (1752 PA-ca. 1781 NC) m. Wineford Bussell/Beffle 4. William Adams (ca. 1771 NC-1846 KY) m. Eleanor Simpson Sometime after the death of John Adams (1752-1781) his son William Adams, being the oldest male child of John Adams, deceased, inherited the 500 acres of land that his father owned.? William Adams was about 10 years of age at the time of his father's death and Alexander Long was named guardian of William Adams. I know that Susanna was the name of Alexander Long's first wife?and I am trying to?find out?what Susanna's maiden name was.? I also know that John and Eve (Smith) Adams had a daughter named Susanna who was born about 1761, making her the right age to have been Alexander's (b. 1758)?first wife.? If Alexander Long was married to Susanna Adams, that would have made him an uncle to my William Adams, which makes more sense to me to have a family member be a guardian than someone who happens to live in the same neighborhood. 27 Aug 1784. Alexander Long and wife Susanna of Salisbury, NC to George Smith, planter, 133 A both sides of the Great Road from Salisbury to Trading Ford on the Yadkin River next to John Adams, Alexander Chambers and R. Hays. >From the information that I have found on Alexander Long, it?states that his first wife was Susanna Stokes, but no one seems to have any source on how they arrived at this conclusion.? There doesn't seem to be any marriage records available for either of Alexander's two marriages and I am wondering if someone was guessing at his first wife's maiden name being Stokes and it has been copied over and over without anyone bothering to look for any kind of documentation as proof that it is fact.
