Most of the information that I have been able to find on Alexander LONG states that Alexander LONG was first married to Susanna STOKES, daughter of David and Sarah Montfort STOKES and sister to Governor Montfort STOKES. All of the information related to Susanna STOKES' parents, David and Sarah STOKES, says that they never lived in North Carolina, David STOKES died 1794 in Lunenburg, VA. Susanna's brother, Governor Montfort STOKES, he was the Governor of North Carolina and he did live in Rowan County, NC for a time. I find it highly unlikely that Susanna STOKES went to North Carolina to live when her parents never left Virginia. In fact, I found a marriage record in Lunenburg, VA for a Susanna STOKES ELLIS to Roderick GORDON on 25 Dec. 1787. I suspect that this is Susanna STOKES, daughter of David and Sarah STOKES, and she was first married to a man named ELLIS, he died sometime before 1787, and she married Roderick Gordon. I have found no marriage records for Alexander LONG in Rowan County nor anywhere else in North Carolina. All we know is that Alexander's first wife's name was Susanna and his second wife's name was Elizabeth. Was Alexander LONG's first wife Susanna ADAMS, daughter of John ADAMS and Eve SMITH?
