Our family lines tie into DNA Grp 19. A cousin just shared the following info on Charles. At first I thought he might be the Charles (reported as s/o of Thomas b. 1711) b. abt 1741, but he went on to GA. We have always found Celia listed as head of household until this info surfaced. Seven of her ten children fit the age range of this Charles. Does anyone have info on this Charles? 1768 Charles Walker with son James on Tax List of Iredell Co with 2 WP (means James is over 21) p. 98 (Rowan Co Tax List 1757-1800 by Jo White Lynn) 1772 Charles Walker on Tax list, p 113, Iredell Area. Tax list of Walter Lindsey (Rowan Co Tax List 1757-1800 by Jo White Lynn) 1794 Charles Walker, 200 acres 1 WP, on Back & 3rd Creek, NW Rowan Co (from Rowan Co. Tax list, p.327-by Jo White Linn) 1796 August, list an estate settlement naming Charles Walker with wife, Celia Walker. (Abstracts of Deeds of Rowan Co. by James W. Kluttz) Additional info on Celia and our known ancestors: In the 1840 Lincoln Co., TN census (11th Civil District), Lee Walker's household is as follows: 1m 5-10, 1m 10-15, 2m 20-30, 1m 50-60, 1f -5, 1f 10-15, 1f 15-20, 1f 70-80. So clearly, Lee Walker did have additional children. The ages of the eldest two sons are consistent with that of the Lee Walker in Iredell Co., NC in 1820 (see below). The 70-80 year old female in Lee Walker's household is Celia Walker. According to my family tradition, Celia Walker is the sister of Lee Walker; and that Celia Walker is the mother of my Smith L. Walker. However, the census records and their age differences lead me to believe that she is more likely the mother of Lee Walker and the grandmother of Smith L. Walker. Here is a list of known facts: 1. Celia Walker is head of household in Rowan Co., NC in 1800 with the following: 3m -10, 2m 10-16, 1f -10, 1f 26-45, 1f 45+. (NOTE: I can't locate my copy of her household in Rowan or Iredell Co., NC in 1810.) 2. "Cecillia" Walker is head of household in Iredell Co., NC in 1820 with the following: 1m -10, 1m 10-16, 1f 10-16, 1f 16-26, 1f 26-45. (NOTE: Within the near vicinity of her household are the following households: William A. Walker, Arthur Walker, Nancy Walker and Lee Walker.) 3. "Cealia" Walker is the head of household in Lincoln Co., TN in 1830 with the following: 1f 5-10, 1f 30-40, 1f 60-70. 4. Smith L. Walker was born 20 Oct 1809 in North Carolina. 5. Lee Walker is listed as being 64 years old (born in VA) in the 1850 Lincoln Co., TN census. 6. Celia Walker is listed as being 86 years old (born in VA) in the 1850 Lincoln Co., TN census (in her grandson-in-law's household, James Harbin). 7. There are two known brothers, Stephen T. Walker and John W. Walker, who are in Lincoln Co., TN around the same time frame. Stephen T. Walker was born 1 Jan 1782 in VA. John W. Walker is listed as being 60 years old (born in VA). Stephen T. Walker married Elizabeth C. Tiffin on 21 Sep 1816 in Pittsylvania Co., VA. John W. Walker married Milly Covington on 6 Dec 1815 in Pittsylvania Co., VA. 8. An ongoing DNA study of male WALKERs has proven that Stephen T. Walker & John W. Walker share a common ancestor with known brothers, William Walker (b. Abt. 1772, VA) and Jeremiah Walker (b. Abt. 1773, VA). Now to some speculation that might tie all of these facts together. Based on my family's tradition that Smith L. Walker was the son of Celia Walker, I had always assumed that he was either the male under 10 or the male 10-16 years of age in her household in 1820. However, now that it appears that Smith L. Walker is more likely her grandson, I have begun to rethink a lot of things. Included in this rethinking is the possibly that Smith L. Walker is the son of Lee Walker. Smith L. Walker could be one of the males under 10 in his household in 1820. But the most compelling evidence, in my opinion, that adds weight to them being father and son, is that BOTH Lee Walker and Smith L. Walker are not in Lincoln Co., TN for the 1830 census. Yet they both appear with their own households in 1840. There is no question that Lee Walker was in Lincoln Co., TN prior to the 1830 census, because he is on the Lincoln Co., TN tax rolls for 1828, 1829 and 1830. While I have yet to locate any evidence to substantiate it, my overall theory is that William Walker (b. Abt. 1772) and Jeremiah Walker (b. Abt. 1773) are half-brothers of Stephen T. Walker and John W. Walker. That Celia Walker (maiden name unknown) married William and Jeremiah Walker's father, and had Stephen T. Walker, Lee Walker, John W. Walker and two additional sons. That her husband died prior to 1800. The 1800 census, at least, opens the door to this theory: 3m -10 (John W. about 10); 2m 10-16 (Lee about 14; Stephen was actually 18). __Jim Danley, 1365 Marabou Ln. , Vista, CA 92083, [email protected]
