    3. Betty, you have a 1751 marriage listed. Rowan wasn't a county then. I had problems with this particular item before. The marriage was actually much much later, 1781. 1. [ROWANROOTS] [ROWAN] Old Smith Cemetery
    2. Can anyone please tell me on which side, east or west, of I-85 the old Smith Cemetery is located in Rowan County? I was told that it is located near mile marker 80 off of I-85 and we went out there yesterday to find it, but I was not sure which side of I-85 that the cemetery is on. We were unable to search around in the areas on either side because the ground was much too wet and muddy from all of the recent rain in the area. I would also like to know if there is some other way that you can get to the cemetery besides pulling off on the side of the expressway or driving down the dead end roads on either side to get to the cemetery? Thanks, Linda Monticelli **************************************See AOL's top rated recipes (http://food.aol.com/top-rated-recipes?NCID=aoltop00030000000004)

    2. Del & Curt
    3. Yes friends and/or relative could be the witness(s). I have several pensioners testify with (only an approximate year) and where they signed up (in MD) and who their commander was, all listed in the Rowan & Mecklenburg Co NC court records where they where accepted and did collect their pensions. Maybe someone has seen a study of what criteria accepted vs rejected rev war pension applicants. I do believe that years later there has been documentation found to support some rejected pension claims. 3. The Guilford Courthouse Park & Visitors Center has some terrific history and geneology books in their gift shop and a great little movie on the battle you'd enjoy seeing. I am not positive they are open on Sunday - you could probably put it online and find out - I'll actually try to do that for you. Also the Guilford County library in Greensboro is a great source for material and I imagine they are also open on Sunday until about 5pm if they are like the one here in Forsyth County in Winston-Salem just down the road. If they aren't.... the Forsyth County library NC Room is open on Sundays and also has great resource material. The NC Archives are great but they are in Raleigh 2 1/2 hours away from here and I'm also not sure they are open on Sunday. I'll check online to see if I can find out if these things are all open Sundays for you.
