    3. One major problem with the whole thing is it's against Rootsweb policy to use **any** of their lists to advertise for profit which is what this person/company did by offering a paid service no matter how good or bad it may be. They have a separate section where that can be done....RootsWeb is all about free and helping each other & not for any profit. SamPubCo has definitely achieved advertising through this discussion. Back to researching... belinda ----- Original Message ----- From: "Walt Wilson" <wwilson@triad.rr.com> To: <rowanroots@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, January 22, 2008 9:51 PM Subject: Re: [ROWANROOTS] SAMPUBCO's going GREEN > Never heard of him or his supposed great service

    3. I've used SAMBUCO'S copy services twice in the past six years, both with satisfactory result. I think it was for copies of Licenses and Estates. As others have noted, if you have need for copies of official documents, this is one way to get them. Dick Stewart Arizona

    1. [ROWANROOTS] WAS IT HARBIN OR HARDEN - HELP, PLEASE!
    2. Joan Marie
    3. I hope someone can clear up a discrepancy for me on this name. I have references for an Alex/Eleck, Jean & Walter HARBIN (I think) in the Salisbury Dist in 1787. In 1778 there is a Alex HARDEN getting land from the State of NC (deeds 9-668 & 10-69). In 1795 Alex HARDEN is deeding to Wm. HARDEN (14-784). I have not been able to find him on the 1800 or 1810 census. Given the names of William & Walter HARBIN also being involved it would make sense for him to be a HARBIN, but I wonder. Does anyone have access to other records that might clarify which name is correct? Thanks so much. Joan Marie

    2. Joe, No, my SCMIDT/SMITH's were not related to the NJ SMITH's, my SMITH's were?German Palatines from Lancaster County, PA (PA Dutch) before migrating to Rowan County, NC. However, my 5th great grandmother Winefred (BUSSELL) ADAMS married Cornelius SMITH after her husband John ADAMS (my ancestor) died.? Cornelius SMITH is from the NJ SMITH's and any children that they had together and their descendants would be related to me. 2. 1790 Rowan County, NC Census Richard Walton - 5 males (sons, Peter, John, Conrad, Benjamin & Daniel), 1 male (Richard), & 2 females (wife Susanna & dau. Susanna) **************************************** 1800 Rowan County, NC Census Richard Walton - 1m <10, 2m 16-26, 2m 26-45, 1m >45 / 1f 16-26, & 1f ---------------------------------------- All Walton’s listed - 1800 Rowan Benjamin Walton Salisbury, Rowan, NC 1800 John Walton Salisbury, Rowan, NC 1800 Margret Walton Salisbury, Rowan, NC 1800 Richard Walton Salisbury, Rowan, NC 1800 ******************************************* 1810 Carolina, Rowan County, NC Census Richd. Walton - 2m <10, 1m 16-26, 2m >45, / 1f 10-16 ------------------------------------- All Walton’s listed - 1810 Rowan John Walton Carolina, Rowan, NC 1810 Margaret Walton Carolina, Rowan, NC 1810 Richd Walton Carolina, Rowan, NC 1810 **************************************** Richard Walton m. Susanna Smith between 1756 & 1760 Rowan County, NC. Children: sons Peter, John, Daniel, Benjamin, and Conrad, and daughter Susanna. One possibility for why no one has found a marriage record for Richard Walton and Susanna Smith could be because if there was a marriage record to be found, it would most likely be found in the church records being that Susanna Smith’s parents were German and I read somewhere that the German people did not believe in taking out a marriage bond because it was between God and them when they were married. There weren't any Lutheran churches in Rowan County during the time period when Richard and Susanna would have gotten married and this, I believe, would be where you would find their marriage record, in the church records. The Muddy Creek Lutheran Church records in Lancaster County, PA is where I found the marriage record for John Adams and Eve Schmidt/Smith, daughter of Peter and Barbara Schmidt/Smith. ------------------------------------- Daniel Walton m. Margaret Yost, 8 May 1792 Rowan County, NC. George Smith, bondsman. Chs. (Charles?) Caldwell, witness. Daniel and Margaret’s children were, Isaac, Catherine, Joseph, and Margaret. Daniel Walton probably died sometime before the 1800 census when his wife Margaret (Yost) Walton shows up on the 1800 Rowan County, NC Census. ------------------------------------- Benjamin Walton m. Martha Butner, 16 Jan. 1794 Rowan County, NC. William Butner, bondsman. Jo. Chambers, witness. Benjamin probably died before the 1810 census as he is listed on the 1800 census of Rowan County and is not listed on the 1810 Rowan County census. Susanna (Smith) Walton, wife of Richard Walton, must have died between the 1800 census and the 1810 census. There is a female in her age listed with Richard Walton on the 1790 and 1800 censuses, but there is no female in her age bracket listed with Richard Walton on the 1810 census. ------------------------------------- There was a Richard Walton who married Peggy Adams, 23 Feb. 1813 Rowan County, NC. Peter Adams, bondsman. Jno. Giles, witness. I’m not sure whether this is the same Richard Walton who married Susanna Schmidt/Smith or if he could have been a grandson of theirs. I believe this Peggy Adams is the daughter of John Adams (III) and Elizabeth Reed, this John Adams is a grandson of John Adams (I) and Eve Smith and son of John Adams (II) and Wineford Bussell. 3. Papercopy orders will not be accepted after March 1st. Scanned images of documents will be in zipped files and placed on site for pickup by customers who order copy of probate records, naturalizations, guardianships, etc. Not a spam when SAMPUBCO is a genealogical service company providing copies of records. 3. Linda, Thank you for this link and ESPECIALLY thank you for responding! There are several problems with the information in that link though. I went to the archives and have a copy of the actual will of Richard Walton and also a copy of the will of Conrad Walton. According to Richard's Will, dated Nov 23, 1813, these are his children as named in the will: 1. Peter Walton, John Walton, Benjamin Walton, Susanna Kern (daughter) and heirs of my two sons: Daniel and Benjamin Walton. (Son Conrad had died before his father Richard.) RICHARD WALTON'S Actual WILL: In the Name of God Amen: I, Richard Walton of North Carolina, Rowan County being old and verry weak in body but of perfect mind and memory thanks be to God for the same, but calling unto mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die, do make and ordain this my last will and Testament (that is to say) First of all I give and recommend my Soul into the Hands of Almighty God that gave it me, and my body to the Earth to be Buried; and as touching such worldly estate wherewith it has pleased God to Bless me with in this life I give, demise and dispose of the same in the following maner and form; First of all that my just debts to be paid out of my personall estate, Secondly I give to my Son Peter Walton the ?? Tract of land whereon I now live Adjoining Jacob Smith's line, John Adams and George Brunner's lines including my Spring whereat I now live, which is one Hundred and Sixteen acres of land, Thirdly I give unto my Two son's John and Peter Walton One Hundred and Sixteen acres of land adjoining Benjamin Walton's line at the rate of two dollars the acre, and they are to pay an equal part to my Daughter Susanna Kern, and to the Heirs of my Two Sons Daniel and and Benjamin Walton an equal Share, Fourthly I give unto my four Grand Children Daniel Waltons, a tract of land one hundred and nineteen Acres, Namely, Isaac, Catherine, Joseph, and Margret all to have an equal share. I also give Margret Walton their Mother the Third during her lifetime whereon she now lives, Fifthly I give unto my Daugher Susanna Kern one hundred and sixteen pounds in money instead of One Hundred and Sixteen Acres of land, Sixthly I give them all an equal share which is left of my personall property, namely John and Peter Walton, Susanna Kern and to my Two sons heirs all equal share and share alike. I also appoint my son John Walton my Executor of this my last will and Testament, In witness whereof I have set my hand and seal this 23rd of November in the year of our Lord One thousand, Eight Hundred and Thirteen. Witness: Jacob Smith, John H Swink Richard gave his mark. According to Conrad Walton's will: Below is what the will says. I, Conrad Walton of N. Carolina, Rowan County, being in perfect mind and memory thanks be unto God, calling unto mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all man once to Die to make and ordain this my last will and testament that is to say: first of all, I give and recommend my soul into the hands of almighty God that gave it and my body to the Earth to be buried and as tuching (touching) such worldly estate where with it has pleased God to bless me in this life, I give, dismiss and dispose of the same in the following manner and form: First that all my just debts to be paid. I also give unto my Sister- in-law Margaret Walton, twenty five pound for to raise her children with, I want my executors here after named to pay her twelve pound out of the twenty five immediately after my death. The rest of my Estate is to be divided into five equal shares namely - John, Peter, Susanna, and my brothers Daniel and Benjamin Children, also, the Children amongst them selves shall have equal shares and if one or the other of the children should die under age, then it shall be given to their own brothers or sisters all equally divided. I also make and ordain my brother, John and brother-in-law, Daniel Kern my Executors of this my Last will and Testament, in witness where of I have here unto set my hand and seal this 22 day of February 1807. Signed Conrad Walton and witnessed by David Butner This tells me that Conrad is a brother of John, Peter, Daniel, Benjamin Walton and Susanna Walton Kern, so therefore a SON of Richard Walton. IT also tells me there is no son named David as the http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/nc/rowan/wills/w4350001.txt website says. Hope this didn't "muddy the waters"! As you can see, I still don't have any info about the marriage of Richard and Susannah Smith/Schmidt. I have also, never found proof that Richard was a Dunker. His name is not on the only list of Dunkers I have found. Anyone have suggestions where to look?
