Bob I'd like to add that if you go to the NC "Archives" and use the search engine, it will bring up the family names from the Chalkley Chronicles for you. If you just visit the Augusta, Va website and view the Chalkley papers which is extensive you may spend hours searching through the papers. Good luck Stephanie Jemima Gee Morse wrote: > > Bob, > I am forwarding your message to Lula Hankins Hunter. She has the > following for a Christina Harman (Harmon), which may be your > family. I would like to mention that some colleges close down over the years ... and knowing where the records of the college have been stored...maybe there is a website devoted to storing the information like that... I found that a private 2 year college that was in the early years of Cameron, Missouri, which my kin attended, their records were acquired bye a college here in Kansas for safe keeping ... closer for me to work location wise.. only twenty miles from me... that was a real find and the individuals were more than helpful in showing me how to work the archive of records Jerry In Kansas
Incidentally the last email I sent about Harmons - George Herman had a daughter Elizabeth and his son, Cutliffe, had a daughter Elizabeth. I know of George Hermann b 1710 Austria d Randolph Cty, NC. One son was Cutliffe b 1747-48 Rowan Cty m. Susanna Fouts. They had a daughter, Catherine b 1780 who married Benjamin Ward. All these are direct ancestors of my husband's through the Hix family. does anyone have access to the census for 1810-1830 anyone of these for the Rowan county area that would be willing to do a lookup?
It wasn't me with Elizabeth Harmon, but while on the subject I am searching for Cristina Harmon, born around 1755, most likely daughter of John Harrman of Deep Creek in Old Rowan, today Yadkin. He had sons Anthony and John that I know of and may have died and left a will in Old Tryon Co during the time of the Revolution. He is shown on old Rowan Maps as a land owner and seen in the Moravian Records in the diary of Rev. Soelle. Anybody know of these German Harmons? Cristina married Valentine "Felle" Reece and lived in the Wilkes NC/Watauga NC/Johnson Co TN area after leaving Deep Creek in 1787. She lived to a very old age. Does anyone have info.on KATHERINE K. DAVIS, 1892-1980,musician and composer who immortalized the lovely Welsh song "The Ash Grove" and made it into the hymn "Let All Things Now Living". She was born in Missouri. I have no info. about parents or possible spouse. But any of the Davis folks who are related to her can be proud of what she did for the Welsh music tradition in making it a part of our lives!!
I am looking of a Charlie B. Holcomb born in Yadkin County 1874 to a William & Elizabeth Holcomb from Yadkin County any information would be appreciated. Bill Moore
Hello Everyone, I am looking for information on a SMITH family who could have had a son named EDWARD in 1814 in Rowan Co. NC. They would have been able to give him a really good education. Here are some of the names that descended from this boy after he grew up and went to Platte Co MO and was one of the earliest pioneers there (these names are first and middle names) They may give a clue to his past surnames: CRAWFORD Howard Bent Lena WILSON Maude ROTHWELL Vance Eugene Noel VINSON Rex If any of these names together with SMITH ring a bell please contact me. Dear ??? Someone on this list asked me about Elizabeth Harmon. Please respond, I lost your message. Debby
I too have found this most often as abbreviation for JOHN. Mary Jane
I think you will find all to be referring to the same name. Jno as an abbreviation for John and Jonathan and John as a shortened form of Jonathan at times.
