    3. I am researching the CLINARD surname, the original CLINARD came to this country in approx. 1713, settling in Pennsylvania with the suname KLEINERT. One of them migrated to NC, where the name evolved over the years to CLINARD in the Deep River area of Rowan Co.. My line has dead-ended at Davis CLINARD, Sr. b. abt 1818 in NC, died 9-19-1896 in Michigan, I believe. He married Rebecca PHILLIPS dau. of Mary PEGG and Aaron PHILLIPS of Deep River, NC. Is anyone else out there researching any of these names? I know all the Clinards are related somehow. Beth

    2. Betty A. Pace
    3. Dear Tracee, This is just a tid-bit of information that may or may not tie to your research. There was a WILLIAM M. WILHELM in the 8th NC Regiment (Co. K). He was a 2nd Lt.; enlisted July 5, 1861 at age 33; promoted to 1st Lt October 15, 1862. This information comes from Jethro Rumple's "History of Rowan County" Appendix and roll of honor. The note at the end states: "This entire Company K with its Regiment was captured on Roanoke Island, NC, Feb 8th, 1861; retained as prisoners for two weeks and paroled; exchanged and reorganized at Raleigh, NC , Sept, 1862; assigned to Clingman's Brigade, where it remained until its surrender with Gen. Joseph E. Johnston's Army, at Greensboro, NC April 26, 1865." I am not researching Wilhelms but simply stumbled into the name in researching my own WILLIAM M (Morgan?) WILSON (1821-1864), who is listed just below the Wilhelm name. I do not have the book now, and do not know how to assess its accuracy. I know that my William M. Wilson died in Salisbury (shown in Rumble, who does not give the 1864 date of death that I got from court papers). My William M. Wilson was 1st Sgt in Co. K, enlisted July 5, 1861 at age 32. If this is my fellow, Rumple does not have his age correct, or the 1850 Rowan census is incorrect. I do know that Rumple is incomplete, as are most rosters in NC Regiments from the Civil War. 1. Enochville
    2. Barney Barnhardt
    3. I can't help you with your surnames, but Enochville is an unincorporated community in the south west portion of Rowan County. It is just outside the city limits of Kannapolis. Parts of it are served by three different post offices, Kannapolis, China Grove, and Mooresville. St. Enoch Lutheran Church is located there as well as others. St. Enoch is one of the older churches in the county. I'm not sure it will show as "Enochville" on the map, but there is a sign in the mid point area of the community. The tale I've heard is they were close to incorporating at some point in the past, but decided not to finally. Don't know why! Barney >I am searching for information on the subject family names in Rowan County, NC between 1760 and 1790. Also, Samuel Sewell, Sr. has been noted as buried in "Baker's Cemetery near Enochville (Salisbury), North Carolina". 3. Rebecca, I have the following listed on SEWELL/WARE: John SEWELL (Samuel, Jr., Samuel, Sr., Henry III, Henry II, Henry I), b. 11/25/1785, GA, d. 6/4/1843, GA married Lucy WARE on 1/13/1818 in Smith Co., GA. Lucy was b. 4/3/1794 ?, d. 4/6/1862, TX. They had 10 children. Since the second child, a son, was born in Morgan Co., Georgia (see 1820 & 1830 Tax Digests), I suspect these people were not living in Franklin County well before 1830. 3. Searching ole Rowan county for Maternal GGG Grandfather Ezekiel CLOUD, b.14 March 1762 m. Elizabeth Jones HARMON(HARRISON?) in Oglethorpe co, GA, 26 Jan 1804. Father: Jeremiah CLOUD b. "abt. 1720 either New Castle co,DE or Front Royal, Warren co, VA"(Two different pedigrees have different locations!) Only mention in NC so far of Jeremiah is in old Surry county land grant application: "Jeremiah CLOUD's entry running down said creek . . . Jan 27, 1779 (Warrant granted to R.L.)" .. . . the creek runs N to S in the middle of Stokes co. today near county seat of Danbury. Any further clues or information greatly appreciated and willing to share any info I have on GA CLOUD decendants. ____________________________________________________________________ Get your own FREE, personal Netscape WebMail account today at http://webmail.netscape.com.
