I am looking for information on the following? Francis Ray married Deborah Ervin in Rowan Co on 4 October 1786. His parents were James and Margaret (Morrison?) Ray. They all went to Kentucky soon after that marriage. No one replied to my recent query about these families--does that mean I am the only one looking for them? Marian
I found this on at Ebay and it seems to be a prayer from all of us...LOL "I want ancestors with names like Rudimentary Montagnard or Melchizenick von Steubenhoffmanschild or Spetznatz Giafortoni, not William Brown or John Taylor or Mary Smith. I want ancestors who could read and write, had their children baptised in recognised houses of worship, went to school, purchased land, left detailed wills, had their photographs taken once a year (subsequently putting said pictures in elaborate isinglass frames annotated with calligraphic inscriptions), and with informative inscriptions on their well-preserved headstones. I want family members who wrote memoirs, enlisted in the military as officers, or served as schoolteachers, councillors, or town historians. I want kin who were patriotic and clubby, joined every local society they could find, who kept diaries, had paintings made of their houses, and who put a date on every piece of paper they touched. But most of all, I want ANCESTORS I CAN FIND!! "

A RIDDLE researcher kindly send me info which had been gathered from several sources sent to them. Included was this: COLONIAL AMERICA, 1607-1789 NC CENSUS INDEX. NC Rowan Co., 1755 NC Rowan Co., 1759 NC Rowan Co., 1762. There is a 1759 Rowan Co. tax list, which I know about. Who holds a 1755 and 1762 (apparent) tax list? Who is the author of this book, Colonial America? The title name is apparently a little different from this. Does any of this sound familiar? I would greatly appreciate any help you can give concerning the history of people with these surnames before 1880. I am seeking to gather collateral information on lines that mine intermarried with on the hypothesis that women are as detailed as men in keeping mementoes and records of their lineage; and therefore, I might get some obscure information on my family from these other families. I have many relatives at King's Mountain from SC, NC and VA. I hypothesize that previous generations knew each other in Chester/Lancaster area of Pennsylvania. Do you have any intermarriages with these names? Would you please take a few moments to see if you recognize, off the top of your head, ----without a lot of effort on your part-----, any of these as kin or neighbors? There are other surnames that I can link or suspect a connection through Presbyterianism and/or the Battle of King's Mountain on the NC-SC border. These intermarriages would have been in or around Cumberland, Chester and Lancaster Counties, PA; Augusta, Botetourt, Rockbridge, Rockingham, Wythe, Washington Counties, VA; Surry, Lincoln, Catawba, and Rowan Co, NC; near Ninety-Six, SC; Christian, Madison, Washington, Fayette and Bourbon Counties, KY; Bedford, Blount, Cannon, Christian, Coffee, Maury, Rutherford Counties, TN, Washington, Iron and St. Francois [Francis] Counties, MO or Moses and Stephen Fuller AUSTIN and the move to establish TX. Please reply privately, so as not to clog the list. Mary
Sarah: My connection with the DEALs is MARY DEAL or DEEL (my ggggggrandmother) who married SAMUEL AUSTIN. She was born ca 1739 in Calvert Co., MD & died before 1811 in either Surry Co., NC or Albemarle Co., MD. I'm sorry but I have been unable to come up with anything on siblings or parents for Mary.
