Hi Catherine, There are several forks in the Yadkin River but the major fork is just up river from where the Interstate 85 highway crosses the Yadkin River. Just down river from the I-85 crossing is the "Trading Ford" area. Up river from this area is where the South Yadkin and the North Yadkin run together. I have aerial photos of this junction and area online at http://www.dantana.com/RootsofRowan.html At this junction, Rowan, Davie & Davidson Counties come together. Up river on the North Yadkin is the "Boone's Cave" area and further is Winston-Salem area. Up river on the South Yadkin the Coolemee & Woodleaf area and further on is North Wilksboro area. Betty, Thanks alot for this information about the change in format. I have checked it out and it sure has helped. I like the exact spelling of the name part. I always wondered if you were getting a complete list of names, I thought with only 200 hits there had to be more on some names. To quote my grandmother when she was learning English " I just learn how to say "Jam" and they change it to "Jelly". Some of us have a hard enough time using the computer and then they come along and change it. This is a nice change. I think everybody will really find this a lot easier to use. I didn't get 2000 names but I got the spelling of the name I was looking for and did not have to short thru other spellings of the name. Happy Hunting Catherine Leinbach

I have a Mary "Polly" Waggoner married to Hugh Stamper (d.1841 in Iredell). The estate sale for Hugh was conducted by Peter Waggoner, with Lewis Waggoner, Joseph C. Waggoner and Jn. Waggoner attending. Possibly Mary died before 1850 as her son, Lewis Franklin Stamper and Joseph H. Stamper were living with Peter Waggoner in the 1850 census. ANY and all clues are welcomed! Sherry

I am in hope someone may be able to offer a suggestion to help me solve a problem. I am trying to find proof of the marriage of Mary HUFF to George DANNER/TANNER. I have some evidence, but not proof and I don't know what to do next - guess that is the proverbial brick wall. Here is what I do have: >From Mr. Kluttz's Deed Book Page 898 (I have actual deed) 15 Oct. 1803 Charles HUNTER and John SANE as heirs and adm. of Valentine HUFF and as attorneys-in-fact of Valentine HUFF and Jacob ROLAND who were heirs of said Valentine, which power was granted on 27 Aug. 1802 as registered in deed book 18 at page 676 and said HUNTER as attorney-in-fact- of Henry HUFF, who was also an heir of said Valentine, which power was granted on 21 May 1801 as registered in deed book 18 at page 675, and George TANNER to William MOORE for $10,0000, 319 3/4 A on Forks of Yadkin River on Bear Creek adj. STUART. I also have from a History of Macoupin County, Illinois the statement that George DONNER Sr.'s wife was a HUFF from Frederick County, Md. (Valentine indeed came to Rowan from Frederick County). I also can prove from land records that the spouse of George DONNER Sr. was named MARY. To further muddy the waters I then found a marriage record on-line for a Mary HUFF to Benjamin HARRISON in Rowan county 4 Oct. 1774. Thomas HUFF was the Bondsman. The first child I know of that belonged to George and Mary DONNER, Sr. was also named Mary born 2 May 1778, so Mary HUFF could have md. twice. I just don't know where else to look for a marriage record for George & Mary. Any suggestions will be most welcome. Thanks so much. Jo Ann Schmidt
Hi Perhaps someone might know about Henry W. Waggner/Waggoner b 17 Oct 1821 d 2 Feb 1890 who married Susan Barier/Berrier b 18 Feb 1823 d 22 Sept 1860. Susan's father, Henry Barier Sr names only two grandchildren in his Will in 1860: Joseph Waggner b c 1853 and Triphena Waggoner b c1851. I am told there were two other children: Amanda Waggoner b 1844 and Sarah Waggoner b 1859 but have no proof. Would like to know what happened to Joseph and Triphena....did they marry? Henry Barrier Sr does name "my old friend Jacob Waggoner" as executor, along with his son Henry Barrier Jr. Any help much appreciated Stephanie Dan Michael Patterson wrote: > > I have a Peter Waggoner in old Orange County, NC Freidens Church area in > 1820-30s. It happened overnight. I was checking something I looked up last night and low and behold, ran across; instead of 200 hits I got 2000 on the custom search. However it has a tendency to hang up a bit. They have changed the way the info is entered also, so if you have not visited it for a while it might be worth your time.
