You would need to contact the Register of Deeds Office. I'm sure that is where because I've gone there and gotten them. What I'm not sure of is the address and/or telephone number. The cost is around 50 cents to a dollar unless you want certified copies which are more. You very well may be able to find at least a website for them with an address and phone number at the following website which is a Rowan County Information website. There is a lot more on it than government information, but you should be able to find what you need there. The website is www.dantana.com Barney >I would like to order birth and/or death certificates and am wondering where >I need to go. > >First one is for a woman that was born in Jan. 1912 in Rowan County. Ihave 61 entries on what appears to be your named Daviss. These are in:Joseph Winston, His Entry Book-Surry county 1778-1781 and Surry Co. NC Deed Abstracts, Bk G and H, 1795 to 1800. Have you seen these documents? They will enable you to determine where they lived. And thereis a Davis Creek. Without checking I am sure that your Daviss lived in both Surry and Yadkin. You see, Yadkin was formed from a part of Surry and before that from old Rowan. AL of Yadkin Co. NC

Beth Sloan_______ I am searching Elizabeth Wilson, b 1772, dau of Robt Wilson, who married David Enochs. Do these connect to your Wilson family? Rock
You may find what you are looking for in the "delayed birth records". This is when a person applies for a birth certificate to be issued later in life. Normally they must have 2 types of records indicating their actual date of birth, like a family Bible, school records etc.. More than liklely they had to apply in the county where they were born.
Hello All, I am a double descendant of James MARTIN, b. 1700, and Elizabeth CRAWFORD. Three of their children moved to Surry/Wilkes. Prior to or about the time of the RW, the Thomas ANTHONY, David MARTIN and William Terrell LEWIS families moved to Surry/Wilkes area. David MARTIN did not survive the RW. His wife, Mary, maiden name unknown, but may have been MARTIN, survived and married Jonathan HAINES. I have lots of information about the LEWIS family, little about the ANTHONY family. I would appreciate knowing the children and spouses of Thomas ANTHONY m. Elizabeth MARTIN. This family was in Albemarle originally, which later became Amherst, and still later, Nelson Co., VA. David MARTIN's land was near the Iron Works, and wound up, I believe in Surry Co. William Terrell LEWIS's land was in Wilkes, and I don't know where the ANTHONY property wound up. I have only a list of names of the ANTHONY children: David Sarah Kezziah Millia James William John I would LOVE to know what became of this family. I descend through David and his wife Mary, and also through Sarah "Sallie" MARTIN and William Terrell LEWIS. LEWIS records are very easy to find, and I've found only sparse records for David MARTIN. I do know that David had 3 sons, Salathiel, Obadiah and Joseph. Salathiel was granted administration of his father's estate, and later deeded to Obadiah. The brother Joseph comes from the Draper Manuscripts, and from a deed in Henry Co., VA. Any questions, hints, facts, records would be so welcome at this point!! I believe that David MARTIN may have had more children. The primogeniture laws would have given Salathiel, the eldest son, the property. Salathiel deeded to Obadiah, but, so far as I've been able to determine, to no other. I feel that the ANTHONY family may hold the keys to some of the unsolved questions of this family, and really hope to learn more about them. The slightest clue would be welcome, and very much appreciated. Shirley
Hi Catherine Leinbach & history buffs The mighty Yadkin River begins in the mountains of NC close to Boone, NC. For the most part it travels due east from there down a fairly wide valley, through Watauga & Wilkes & Yadkin Counties. It then turns south between Davidson & Davie Counties. The first few counties are mountainous thus traveling through valleys. As it turns south, the lay of the land evens out. At the southern end of Davie county, the N.Yadkin & the S. Yadkin run together. Davie county is in the crux of this "Y". I have a photo online that you can see this "Y" www.dantana.com/RootsofRowan.html From this junction to High Rock Lake is about 3 miles downstream & dam about 12 miles. Rowan County on your right and Davidson County on your left. Both of these areas were part of the "old Rowan". The area that this river and High Rock Lake begins is the famous Trading Ford area. By the time the river enters the lake it is not much called Yadkin River but High Rock Lake. At the Trading Ford river crossing which is now about 300 yards wide, the river is at its most 2 to 4 feet deep. I have for 35 years duck hunted this area of the river and during the winter have had to get out of my hunting boat and in 3 to 6 inches of water had to push my boat for 100 yards. This shallow crossing is why the indians camped on both sides of the river and done their trading. I am sure that 90% of all traffic that entered Rowan County from the north and northwest crossed this river at Trading Ford. It is said that at the height of the indian occupation of this area, you could see 10,000 campfires. Grasp this statement: within 3 to 5 miles of this point is old german settlements in eastern Rowan, upper and lower Davidson counties. If you had kinfolk in this area in 1700 & 1800s they knew where Trading Ford was. From the influence of the river to High Rock Lake starting at the I-85 highway river bridge to the dam at Lake Tillery, the Yadkin River is not really a river but a series of man made lakes and dams. As stated in an earlier email but with some errors, the series of lakes is: 1) High Rock Lake 2) Tuckertown Lake 3) Badin Lake Narrows Dam 4) Falls Lake 5) Lake Tillery and then the dam that holds back Lake Tillery. The flow of water we knew as Yadkin River then is called the PeeDee River. Just down river from here is the last lake on the Yadkin River/PeeDee River Basin is the Blewett Falls Lake. A few miles below this dam is the SC state line. By the way, there is a mountain lake upstream of High Rock called the Wilksboro Resevoir /W. Kerr Scott Dam. The correct term and location of the Yadkin River Valley should really stop at the influence to the High Rock Lake. At that point the correct term is Yadkin River Basin. The basin covers 7,213 square miles.(total drainage area) It drains part or all of the following counties: Watauga, Caldwell, Alexander, Surry, Iredell, Yadkin, Stokes, Forsyth, Davie, Davidson, Guilford, Randolph, Rowan, Cabarrus, Mecklenburg, Stanly, Montgomery, Union, Anson and Richmond counties, North Carolina. The river basin directly west is the Catawba River basin. The Yadkin River Basin is bordered on the east by the Roanoke River, Neuse River, Cape Fear River, and the Lumber River basins. Dan The Yadkin River retains its name Yadkin until it flows past High Rock Dam, Tuckertown Dam, the Narrows Dam and then at the confluence of the Uwharrie River. it becomes the Great Pee Dee River. I would note that the very first trinkle of water starts in the parking lot of the Green Park Inn in Blowing Rock. Further, I would consider any county that has a border on the Yadkin is in the Yadkin Valley..I think that only Davie Coshould qualify as in the forks of the Yadkin but that would be hard for folks to accept. The Yadkin River also has a Little Yadkin River which has not been mentioned. It flows into the main River NE of East Bendin Yadkin Co. AL of Yadkin Co. NC
I'm a very beginner North Carolina researcher and just have a couple of questions. I would like to order birth and/or death certificates and am wondering where I need to go. First one is for a woman that was born in Jan. 1912 in Rowan County. She died about 1982 in China Grove, Rowan County. I just saw that the state started keeping birth records in 1913 and for anything before that to go to the county. Does anyone know who I contact to order a 1912 Rowan County Birth Record? What are the chances that there is actually a birth record for someone born in 1912 there? What information is listed on a death record for someone that died in 1982? I really need the parents names of this person, will they be on the death record? I am also looking for the same information on someone else that was born and died in Rowan County. Born in 1899 (Jan 8 is the date I was given by a family member) and died June 1969. I have this person's father's name and I really need to verify that and I don't have a mother's name at all. Does anyone know the current prices to order birth and death certificates? thanks, Tracee
I''m looking for information on the Coates family, specifically, one Martha "Patsdey" Coates, born in 1782, married James Willis on December 17. 1804, and died in 1850, in Indiana. Anyone have anything? Would be greatly appreciated. I love this genealogy! Cookie, in Florida

It means the area between the Main Yadkin River and the South Yadkin River. Habits have had a tendancy to stretch the area to where it would include Davie, Yadkin, the part of Iredell that falls east of the South Yadkin in that county. AL of Yadkin Co. NC
Dan, Thank you for the information on the Forks of the Yadkin. Now the area between the two rivers is refered to as the Yadkin (River) Valley? Catherine Leinbach

The Yadkin River valley actually extends from the Boone, North Wilksboro area downstream to the High Rock Lake area. (Salisbury-Rowan County). The Yadkin does streach on further through the light mountain areas around Badin lake but you don't much hear the downstream areas called the Yadkin Valley. Around the North Wilksboro, Roaring River (a small community) and eastward (downstream) you are in an apparent valley. The Yadkin River basin is the second largest river basin in NC. Only the Cape Fear River basin is larger. There is a website http://h2o.enr.state.nc.us/ that might interest most of you. This memo is not geneology related but it may help folks not from NC to understand the lay of the land in these here parts.
