I would like the answer to this also. I have heard that naturalization papers would be held in the county where the person resided. On the other hand, I have read that often immigrants (German and French perhaps) were administered an oath of some kind when they got off the boat in New York, etc. I think this oath was required by the British crown to make sure that none of them were Lutherans or other dissident groups that were a threat to the English church in the 1700s. I have wondered if this oath was the same as naturalization process. Betty Pace - Norfolk, VA . Hi Where can I find records of naturalization of citizens in Rowan NC and other locations? Searching Brookshire/shir/shear/sher Thanks for any help Gay Stewart Beam
Is anyone researching John Lewis Beard and his wife Christine Snapp? In my research on the Schenpp's (Snapp) of Rowan Co., NC, I find many references to John Lewis Beard in family documents. From the information I have found pertaining to him in Carolina Cradle by Robert W. Ramsey and The Heritage and History of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church Vol. I, ed. Martha Withers Agner, co-ed Martha Hines Morehead, he arrived in Rowan Co., NC sometime around 1755 (naturalized in Rowan Co in July 1755). Arriving at the Port of Phildelphia 19 September 1749 (age unknown, but had to be over 16). He married Christina Schnepp (marriage date unknown). The daughter of Johannes and Barbara Schnepp of Frederick Co., VA. Christina was born 17 May 1737 at Opequon creek settlement. Their first child, a son, named Lewis Beard, was born 13 August 1755 in Salisbury. (Christina only 18 at the time of the birth) One question I am looking for answers about is why and how Christina came to be living in Rowan Co., NC near or with her Uncle Lorentz Schnepp and his family. The other children of Johannes remained in Virginia. (The St. John's History mistakenly list Christine as the sister of Lorentz Schnepp of Rowan Co, although he was her uncle. Her brother Lorentz, remained in Frederick Co., VA, married Margaret Stephens, and died there in 1782). If anyone has further information about John Lewis Beard and Christina Schnepp which could help clarify their early history I would like to hear from you. Charmaine
I would like to find information on Christian Miller b about 1720 (prob. in Europe) and d. 1795 in Deep Creek, Surry Cty, NC. He was married to Veronica Miscler and they had a daughter named Elizabeth b in Surry about 1753. She was the wife of Mathias Carpenter (Zimmerman). I would like to know where and when either couple married and have better dates, if possible for births and deaths. Thank you. Audrey Annable Franklin
Could you please lookup the name Orten or Orton in your book? Thank you so much. Jean K.
Hi Joan, Thank you for your kind offer of a lookup! Could you please look for the surnames Pruitt and Osborne. I am very appreciative! Thanks again! Phyllis
I have volunteered to do lookups on other lists and I know how much work it can be and how rewarding. Thanks in advance for checking the names DANNER/TANNER or HUFF. Really appreciate your time and effort. Would you post the exact name of your book again please - I've been away and had tons of e-mails and missed the exact title. Thank you very much. Jo Ann Schmidt

I have a copy of a North Carolina Land Grant map that show a grant of land made to Squire Boone in 1753. This land straddles Dutchman's Creek and is down stream of the union with Buffalo Creek and upstream of the union with Elisha Creek. The map is entitled "Davie County Land Grants by Andrew Lagle 1976". The map states "Copies of the map are available from the Davie County Public Library. Box 158, Mocksville, N.C. 27028." Maybe this will confirm Squire's lived in NC in the 1750. Joan, Thanks for the lookup. Now, one more question, for all those Davis folks trying to trace Davis ancesters in Rowan, does the listing in your book for James Davis give a spedific location for him? Thanks again!
