    1. Reel - Rial - Riehl
    2. Hello all, Johann George Reel shows up in Rowan Co. on 1759 Tax list in the household of Jacob Fulwider along with George Tucker. He marries Catherine Schnepp in June 1762. Becomes naturalized citizen Sept 22, 1763. There is a court case on 14 July 1764 - George Rial vs Joshua Ryall. Trying to discover if these two were related in some way. Also have a John Ryall and William Ryall in Rowan Co. at this time. Are these people relatives of George Reel? I'm hoping to find others who may have researched Reel name. A daughter of George Reel and Catherine Snapp, Catherine Reel, married John Rendleman Jr. I read an article in the Rowan Record on David Atwell Rentleman who is said to have done in depth research on Reel name. Does anyone know if his research survives? I know the Reels move to Leepers Creek in Lincoln Co in 1770 after death of Catherine's father, Lorentz Schnepp. Having trouble turning up information on their children. Particularly who they married and where they raised their families. Some names I have are David/Devauld Reel, Jacob Reel, Daniel Reel, Lewis Reel, Rachel Reel, Elizabeth Reel, Devolt Reel and Gottfried Reel. Any help offered would be most welcome. Geral D. Reel

She died around 1874 following childbirth. Her child was MAGGIE (MARGARET?) L. The grave for the one in >North Carolina is just behind the new WalMart in Clyde. The Missouri James >is allegedly the ancestor of the outlaws Jesse and Frank James. That's probably an adaptation of what really happened. That one brother settled in A, one brother settled in B, and the third settled in C is an *old* story: it's more likely that there are two or three different groups who came over at different times to different places or that this is really about three cousins. In my experience, oral tradition is almost always slightly off. (Example: I was told for years that I'm descended from the Rev. Alexander Whitaker, an early clergyman in the Jamestown Colony: Alexander didn't have any kids, but I may be descended from his youngest brother.) Sometimes, it's even more off. (My greatgrandfather Snyder, a descendant of the Adam Snider who married in Rowan County in 1791, was under the impression that his grandfather had been born in Germany.) >My father is going today to look for that grave. This James would be the >great-grandfather of William James, from Haywood County who settled in >Cocke County Tennessed and married Lucinda Hall. I've never heard of one, but good luck! All sorts of bad things happen to our cemeteries, and these are often condoned (allowed) by local government. Very early tombstones may not be readable any more. I saw several of mine in Jackson County from the late 1800s and up to the 1950s that are being damaged by chemical fumes from nearby paper processors and by moss. The WPA (a government agency that was only around in the 1930s) did some surveys (lists) of some cemeteries. These are invaluable if they contain what you are looking for as some of these stones are no longer readable, have been damaged, or have disappeared. (Have your dad check with his local library's reference librarian, and also with the Old Buncombe Genealogical Society in Asheville.) [snip] >I'm so excited about this possible find that I'm sure I have tons of >questions to ask for all of you to help me out on, but I just can't seem to >think of them right now. I guess I'll just ask you to pray that the grave >is found and at least gets a name, if not a date or two. Don't expect quick results. There are no guarantees as to what you will and won't find. One thing you can do right off is to ask where the old family photos are and ask whoever has them to tell you who is who. (Don't hesitate to offer to pay for copies.) Keep those ears sharp when the older generation starts telling those old family stories! Be sure to find out who else in your extended family is doing genealogy. Ask for help as well as copies of their work (and be prepared to check their work). You may be able to track down additional documents and other info that they haven't been able to lay hands on. I've been doing genealogy seriously for over 15 years and still have major gaps to fill. I still haven't gotten most of my North Carolina families definitively out of North Carolina and back to Virginia and wherever else they came from, but I'm patiently chipping away at the mysteries. (So far, all of my major problems except two are in South Carolina, which has major missing record problems.) Elizabeth Whitaker ELWHITAKER@ftc-i.net in South Carolina

Try this: Click on "mail" at top and then click "options" .. It should have a box you can check which gives you choice of including the message being replied to or not.. If it has a check mark in the box, click to remove it and the message will not be included with your reply.. Your program may differ from mine.. Hope this Helps Someone, Somewhere, Sometime! G. 3. Such messages, containing a dozen or more headers along with anothers pesons message demonstrates that there is no need to return a complete message with a reply.. One short sentence and the proper subject title is sufficient.. The person who posted the message being replied to can look in their "sent" file and read their original message.. if they need to.. Everyone should know they can configure their mail program so it dosen't send all this "junk" with a message..Let's Try It! G. Lee Hearl Abingdon, Va.....

    3. I just got off the phone with my father. He talked to his granduncle Paris James of Clyde, North Carolina. Paris had an interesting story to tell: Three James brothers came over from Ireland. One settled in Missouri, one in South Carolina, and one in North Carolina. The grave for the one in North Carolina is just behind the new WalMart in Clyde. The Missouri James is allegedly the ancestor of the outlaws Jesse and Frank James. My father is going today to look for that grave. This James would be the great-grandfather of William James, from Haywood County who settled in Cocke County Tennessed and married Lucinda Hall. So far we have been able to surmise that William's father was a William James from old Rowan County, North Carolina. Now we have a further lead. I write this to a few lists at a time because this is a cross-over. First: does anyone know of a graveyard (old) behind the WalMart in Clyde, Haywood County, North Carolina. Second: I have watched the james-l list talk about James' in North Carolina in the 1700's and have just been mesmerized because I didn't know my history back that far and can't follow the names. Does anyone know of this James who is buried in Clyde and had a brother who went to Missouri and a brother who moved to South Carolina? I'm so excited about this possible find that I'm sure I have tons of questions to ask for all of you to help me out on, but I just can't seem to think of them right now. I guess I'll just ask you to pray that the grave is found and at least gets a name, if not a date or two. Thank you, Russell D. James 558 W. Apple Dr. Delta, CO 81416-3077 neri@dmea.net

    1. MILLER

    3. Hi Everyone, Does anyone happen to have information on Wendell MILLER, b: abt. 1729 in Germany and, especially his first wife, supposed daughter of Blackhawk? Am especially interested in their son, Frederick MILLER (b: 1756, Rowan Co, wife: Margaret BRAUN.) "Tradition" has it that Frederick was killed, somewhere in Kentucky, by the Indians while helping to lead a wagon train to Washington Co, IN from North Carolina. On both the 1790 and 1800 Rowan Co census I have found a Frederick MILLER listed along with many other people who did migrate to Washington Co, IN ... some as early as 1806 (George BECK.) One FTM cd states that Wendel MILLER arrived in PA from Rotterdam in 1754 (ship "Brothers") and was in Rowan Co by 1756 when his first child was born. He was in the Rev. War pursing "Tories and Cherokee Indians" and had originally worshipped at Old Hickory church and later helped to build Organ Church....owned 2400 acres with many slaves in Rowan Co. None of this has been documented by me. Mainly found the information in the FTM cd's, plus some "tradition" handed down. I believe there may have been a book published quite some time ago about Wendell MILLER and his family? Thanks. Marsha McWilliams
