    3. Hi List, Ever wonder what the markers of those ancestors who moved to other regions look like...exactly where they're located...what info may be on them...or have you ever visited a cemetery and upon revisiting found that some of those old markers are now in pieces or the writing is no longer legible, etc.? Lots of "roots" started in Rowan Co. Here looks to be a great way to preserve & share this information with others and future generations: http://www.piedmontsoftware.com/graves/ If there are other sites like this, please contact me with that info. This could be a great project! Thanks, Belinda Rodgers

    1. German LDS Records
    2. J. D. Lail
    3. This is an evaluation of the German record collection found on the LDS site. In my families case we hired a very good professional record searcher and genealogist in Germany some 20 years ago. (He could read the old German script). It took us 7 years to find our ancestor and he generated a lot of data for us including one false start. Based on what he found for us it is my opinion that the LDS records are very accurate in regards to dates and place names. There may however be a small problem with surnames. In my case I found NO variations in the LDS records i cases where our researcher had reported such. This may be due to the fact that our researcher looked at records which the LDS did not (yet). All of the LDS records I saw were birth and marriage. There were no confirmations or burial records that I could see so it is quite possible that there is more to come.

    3. I am a new list member who is looking for any information for the surname Spoolman prior to 1790 in N.C. There is a Fredrick Spoolman record for 1790 in the Rowan census list and in later year census records for Fredrick(sp) and descendants (Ephraim, George, et al). I found one early 1800s reference for William Spoolman who received a Revolutionary war land grant but no other references. There are Virginia records for 1782 and 1785 only for Fredrick and one much later reference to NC as birth state for him. Any information at all would be very helpful. Also, any information for Wear (?Weir, Wier, Wire, Weere, Wayer?) would be much appreciated.

Apologies are in order, however, for a slightly off-topic followup since it turns out this family didn't come to Rowan County. Zilpah or Zilpha was the daughter of Isaac HALL, b. 4-8-1782, son of Isaac Hall Sr. and Ann WHITE, of Northampton Co. NC. Isaac Jr. married Mary DOUDNA, daughter of John DOUDNA, on 10-23-1800. Their marriage is recorded at Contentnea Monthly Meeting. They had two children in North Carolina, Zilpah born 8-12-1801 and Henry b. 2-6-1803. In 1804 the family moved to Concord Monthly Meeting in Jefferson County Ohio, and later moved from there to Stillwater MM, Belmont Co. OH. Isaac's parents and three brothers also moved to Ohio around the same time. Isaac and Mary had eight more children after their move to Ohio. Zilpah HALL married John HARTLEY 2-2-1826 at Stillwater MM. They had eight children before Zilpah died on 7-26-1841. Thus this Zilpah isn't the one Betty was looking for.
