    1. [RowanRoots] Richard Wilson and Elizabeth Rattz
    2. Walt Wilson
    3. To help clear up any further speculation on this line let me post the info to the entire list. This is my family or at least a part of it. Richard Wilson was born in Old Rowan in 1798, died March 24th 1858. he was married to Mary Elizabeth Rattz, born 12/19/1801, Old Rowan County. Richard's parents were Robert Wilson (1765-1830)and Mary Warner (1770-1811). Robert and Mary had eight children including Richard. The parents of Robert Wilson were Richard Wilson (aprox 1745-1800) and Elizabeth Reed. Richard and Elizabeth Wilson had three surviving children, Robert and his two sisters Mary Wilson (1767-1808)who married Isaac Wiseman, and Elizabeth Wilson (1717-?) who married Thomas Reed. I hope this clears up any questions on the line, I have a complete gedcom of the family to share if anyone wants it, and it in the Davidson nd Rowan heritage Books in the Library at Salisbury and Lexington. Walt Wilson Lexington NC

Hi, Can anyone tell me of the origins of Robert Man who died in Rowan County before January Court 1758, leaving widow Elizabeth and four orphans, John, Mary, Elizabeth and Alice, who were bound out. The next year John Man, believed to be his brother, also died, and left an orphan, Leah, aged five, who was bound out on 17 April 1759. Alice was married in 1771 to Henry Wright (origin ?) and Leah was married in 1772 to Benjamin Burgin from the Eastern Shore of MD. Will appreciate any information, and will share data on the families of Alice and Leah. Agnes

    2. Marsha: Don't have too much on the Anderson's. Actually there are maybe two sets of Anderson's. James Smith married Clara (Chloe/Cloe) Anderson, and James' father, John, was married to Rebecca Anderson. I hope she wasn't a cousin, or niece, but who knows. Rebecca's parents were Cornelius b. 1690, and Annetie Opdycke, b. 1694. Both were born in Maidenhead Twp., Hunterdon, NJ. Their daughter Rebecca was born 1699 in Dutch Kills, NY. I have quite a bit on this line of Smiths. It goes back to the mid 1500s in England. Will be glad to share. Derald Linn

    1. [RowanRoots] Re: Smith Families
    2. Don't have any information on a Margaret. There were a bunch of Smiths in Rowan Co. in the mid to late 1700s. Three of the Lynn boys married Smiths, and one of the girls married a Smith. I first thought they might be sisters, but so far my research has shown that they were not. Two of the Smith girls were cousins. I'm thinking that your Margaret Smith might have been a cousin too. John Smith and his wife Rebecca Anderson brought their family to Rowan County in about 1740, and there were several boys, Thomas, Andrew, James, Anderson, Samuel, John, and Elijah. Any one of them could have had a daughter named Margaret, but I don't have that information on my family sheets. Derald Linn

    3. Dear Carole, My DAVID POOLE/POOL (1810-1867Rowan) was, according to family tradition, descended from old JACOB VAN POOL of Rowan Co, but we have never been able to confirm the names of the parents of David Poole/Pool. I wonder if you could look him up in your Poole book, mentioned in the posting to Rowan Roots. My ggrandfather (CLAYTON W. POOLE--1848-1908Salisbury) was the son of DAVID POOLE and ANGELINE BULLEN/BOLEN/BULLARD (various according to which census you look at). We cannot find a marriage for them, although there were at least four children (Isabel (b.1844); Clayton (b.1848); Abraham (b. 1851); and Mary L. (b.1853). I have wondered if David Poole was already married previously and simply cohabitated with Angeline Bullen over many years. Even the children's names in estate papers were listed as Bullen/Poole, showing some confusion as to their exact legal status. After David's death in 1867-8, she appears in census reports as ANGELINE POOLE, so perhaps they married in some way before his death. The names of Clayton W. Poole's children by Susan Poole (Julian)-- Walter W.; George; Roxanne Olivia, m. to Charles W. Mowery; and Mary Ann (my grandmother, m. to Charles W. Pace Sr.) The names of Abraham Poole's children by Laura Poole--Lina/Tina; and Mittie. This information came from the 1880 Rowan census. Do you know the names of the siblings of David Poole? You mentioned an Elizabeth, but she is not listed in the Pool book, you said. How does Otho Pool fit in all this? I do not have access to the book you refer to. 3. I am looking for the parents of my ggggrandfather Charles Lentz, currently for his mother's name. I have Lentz Heritage (some of it anyway) and refer to page 33 where there is a question in that author's mind about this. So I went to the McCubbins files yesterday, and found the reference that Abraham was m. first to ____ Poole, exactly as it stated in the book but unfortunately no closer to finding out the first wife's name than before. Is anyone researching this particular branch of the family and knows who the Poole is? I also have a book about the Pools and find no Elizabeth who could be Charles' mother--she is supposed to be sister of David Poole, and children of Otho, but no Elizabeth fits any part of that description ( and she had to die when Charles was b. in 1815). Thanks for any help. Carole Anderson
