Jo, I checked and have the info you sent and I have the same as you to this point. I need the proof of James Wiatt/Wyatt's ancestry as well. His father John m Rachel Hannah, his father John b 1714 d aft 1776 Bute Co., NC m Rachel, his father John b 1679 Perquimans Co., NC d 1739 Perq. m Rachel Calloway b 1675 Perq m 1696 perq. Have yet to prove and yet seems logical. On Margaret Smith's father James we have nothing. He would have been born about 1730? Do you show anyone in your info that may have been born about that time? Sorry you're in the snow. Your e-mail didn't come through until last night. We will be near 80 today if not warmer here in FL. We researched in Rowan in August. I love the Rowan area. It would be my first choice to retire in Salisbury. Thanks for your response. Hi Bob, I would be willing to take bets that, your Angelo Co., is actually ONSLOW Co., N.C. (Sound Angelo out and slur the "g") My two bits.. This is too good to leave here. -----Original Message----- From: Hdeschenes@aol.com [mailto:Hdeschenes@aol.com] Sent: Friday, January 28, 2000 2:53 PM To: BALTGEN-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [BALTGEN-L] CENSUS Thiis info was sent to me by a very savvy lady & thought it was a very good idea. **************************************************************************** ** ******************* The year 2000 is a Census Year. Most of the census will be taken by mail. After you have filled out your census form why not make a copy of it and file with your important (genealogy) papers. Then your family will not have to wait 70 years to learn about you. ______________________________
Does anyone have the genealogy of General Robert Hill d. 1800? I would greatly appreciate his descendancy, especially, but also his antecedants, as I am trying to trace his wife's line, and looking for similar surnames in marriages. Thank you for whatever help you can be. Mary
Try Onslow County! A mouth full of chewing tobacco might get you that. -----Original Message----- From: Bobevans01@aol.com <Bobevans01@aol.com> To: ROWANROOTS-L@rootsweb.com <ROWANROOTS-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Thursday, January 27, 2000 5:15 PM Subject: [RowanRoots] Angelo County >With all the mail about other non-existant counties, I decided to float this >one. Have you tried Onslow County? I imagine that the doctor filled out the death certificate, and took the information from the son who gave the information. If the Doctor was hard of hearing, he could have heard Angelo for Onlsow. Rick Saunders
According to the North Carolina Gazetteer by William Powell, the following place names start with Angola, which could have been misinterpreted: Angola-community in western Onslow County Angola Bay-pocosin in southern Duplin and northern Pender counties. Angola Creek-rises in Angola Bay in northeast Pender County and flows south into Holly Shelter Creek. Also: Angelico Mountain-southwest Cherokee County extending northeast from Angelico Gap to Bowman's Gap (see also Rocky Face) Angelico Gap-southwest Cherokee County at the southwest end of Angelico Mountain. Hope this helps somehow, Billy
With all the mail about other non-existant counties, I decided to float this one. Please don't answer unless you know something definite. My wife's g-grandfather's death certificate said he was born in "Angelo County" North Carolina in 1850. Now I know there has not ever been an Angelo county, and we have searched high and low for something similar, including Angola swamp. My wife thinks he must have had a mouth full of chewing tobacco when he told his sons where he was born. If anyone knows of any place in N.C. with a name of Angelo, please let me know. By the way, his name was George Green. I cannot associate him with Rowan county specifically, but if anyone is researching the Green line an has a clue, let me hear from you. Thanks
Dear Gena, I have an ANGELINE BULLEN/BULLAND/BOLIN (1824-aft. 1880)--the spelling varies, even BULLARD possible on one handwritten census for Rowan County. She was the mother of my ggrandfather CLAYTON W. POOL(E) (1848-1908Rowan). She seems to have had an older sister named CATHERINE BULLEN/BULLAND. She and DAVID POOL (1810-1867) were either married or cohabitated, having four children that I know of. She did inherit at the time of his death, but the children were named with both Pool and Bullen in court documents. We believed she is from the line of CONRAD BULLEN but can't trace it back beyond her. Would like to communicate with anyone researching the various branches of the Cathey family in Rowan County in mid to late 1700's. Sandra
I am sending this info to all three groups because they tie together I think starting in Old Rowan county. (Davidson, Rowan & Orange counties). These names have come up this week on all of these groups. The names: Michael, Cobb, Wagoner, Gerringer, etc. The Michael brothers of Davidson county area 1700s. Frederick, Barney, Nicholas mixed in with lots of folks that made it to Orange county and all directions. Frederick married a "Christina". My Old Barney married a "Mary Anna Charles (Carl)" Her father was a "Jacob Charles, Sr. Old Barney's & Mary's headstone is at Freiden's Church. Elizabeth Waggoner married a David Michael was Barney's son. Elizabeth's father was Peter Waggoner. It all ties back to Rowan county names. Samuel Cobb married Jane Gerringer. Debbie: The Rowan Co. marriage records are available on LDS microfilm. The problem is there are too many SMITHs in Rowan Co.! Perhaps you need to consider an intermediate location in KY, between NC and MO. I am interested in William SMITH who married Elizabeth NEAT (dau of J. Rudolph NIEDT/NEAT/NAT/NEET, Jr, and the Moravian Margareth FREY) in Rowan Co NC 1802. Their son, William Henry SMITH (b. 1818 Adair Co. KY, d. 1894 Carroll Co. MO) married 3 times and had children by each. At 03:00 AM 1/25/00 -0800, "Debbie Roth" <emkr@temecula.com> wrote: >Hello Everyone, >I was wondering if anyone has any SMITHS that were in the Rowan Co. Hello Everyone, I was wondering if anyone has any SMITHS that were in the Rowan Co. NC area around 1814 that traveled to Platte Co. MO when it opened for homesteading in 1840? Or possibly access to census information of the area, around 1800, that would show Smiths and MCCLAINS living close together. I am looking for the parents of my GGG Grandfather EDWARD SMITH who was born in 1814, well educated and traveled to Platte Co. MO in 1840. Since he married a Lucinda McClain in Platte Co MO who's Grandfather was JOHN MCCLAIN from Rowan Co. NC, I thought that could be a lead. Please contact me if you can help.
