    3. Would someone who is also on the Forsythe and other and other county lists near Winston-Salem, NC re-distribute this on them if you haven't already seen it please? o Found in a Virginia antique shop, an old picture album (looks early 1900s) with pictures or notations about the following: The BINKLEY Family -- Henry BINKLEY, Jane BINKLEY, Robert BINKLEY, Jacob Andrew BINKLEY, Mary Lee BINKLEY, Elsie and Frank CANNON, Mary NIFONG, Nora and Metzel BINKLEY, Robert and Lolen ALLRED, Hazel BINKLEY HODEL, and Gladys BINKLEY LANCE. One picture was made by H. A. LINEBACK STUDIO in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. I could not just leave this there so I purchased for a small price. I would like to get it to someone who might be working on their family tree. When you want to know books that have been published for any location, one of the best places to start is with the FHL catalog at: http://familysearch.org/Search/searchcatalog.asp In this case look under Rowan County, NC, then cemeteries, and Davidson Co., NC then cemeteries. Authors, year, and place of publication are given. You will find are numerous books on cemeteries that have been published for both counties. As I recall from seeng on the FHL shelves, there are about 10 volumes for each county that have been published by their respective genealogical societies, not to mention publications by other authors. 3. I have just begun researching the Porter family in Rowan Co, and have found what seem to be several "heads" of families, whom I would like to tie together or leave separate, in hopes of finding my own Porters. The family groups I've come up with seem to be: 1. Lawrence Porter ( who m. Betsy Park in 1817). There seems to be a Lawrence father/son here, not sure which is which. They lived on Dutch Second Creek. 2. James Porter who lived on Fourth Creek as early as 1786, may have sons, brothers named William, James, Thomas. 3. Thomas Porter who bought land on Walnut Creek in 1765. 4. James Porter who m. Jenny Thomas in 1809 and had a son James also, m. to Anna Luvinia Pool. 5. William Porter whose will was probated in 1761 and had only one son Robert. 6. Robert Porter who m. Elizabeth McBroom in 1767. 7. John Porter who m. Elizabeth Wasner, a widow, and John Porter who m. Elizabeth d/o John Beaver. I have more information on these men/families from court records, but would like to know if they are connected and anything on any of them, but mostly on 1)Lawrence and 4) James as these are definitely in my line. Thanks. Carole

    3. Many thanks. There was a GEORGE SCHMIDT who was a resident at Wachovia (Moravian). The story is that he pressured that community to give him more freedom in profit-making from his trade (I think a blacksmith). I wonder if these are one and the same. 1. [RowanRoots] Update on John Bowlby Palmer's year of birth
    2. J Gallagher
    3. Recently I posted a query on the list and gave tombstone inscriptions for John Bowlby Palmer and Margaret Pennington both buried in the Walnut Grove Methodist Church Cemetery in Franklin Co., TN. Margaret is believed to have first married Isaac Rich who died in 1787 in Rowan Co., NC and is buried in Eaton Baptist Church Cem. in present-day Davie Co., NC. The tombstone inscriptions were taken from the Franklin Co., TN Cemetery Book published in 1984 by the Franklin Co. Historical Society. This morning my husband and I went to the Walnut Grove Cem. to photograph the tombstones and low and behold John Bowlby Palmer's stone very clearly had his age as 51 NOt 54. Therefore, since the stone states he died Oct. 1825 aged 51 years, he was born in 1774 NOT 1771. Please note this correction. Joy Q. Gallagher Winchester, Franklin Co., TN

    3. Dear Debbie, I am not sure whether I have replied to this or not--I have been having a lot of trouble with my hard drive. My MARGARET SMITH (1806-1895) was married to ISAAC EARNHART (1807-1846). Her father was JOHN SMITH (1780-1812) married to POLLY (MARY?) BRYAN. His father was PETER SMITH JR (around 1760?) and his father was PETER SCHMIDT (around 1740?)--the dates here on the two Peters are my estimates only to allow for generations. One of the Peters was probably the Peter Smith who died in 1767). All of this was in Rowan Co., NC. My information came from a genealogist in the Rowan History Room, and I have no documentation in my possession. It is possible that my Smith/Schmidt line were Moravians originally.
