    2. Jim, Polly and her parents were living in Rowan County and sometime around 1800 moved to Rutherford County, NC. So Rowan is probably where Polly Dedmon had Jacob Wolf. Thanks, Melanie

    3. Go to: http://www.globalfindata.com/tbpound.htm for exchange rates of dollar/pound for every year since 1800. Go to: http://www.westegg.com/inflation/ and you can convert the dollars for any year from 1800 into current dollars (1999) or any other year. Rick Saunders http://pweb.netcom.com/~fzsaund/0.html

    3. I checked with an exchange web site...but I got the math backwards :-{ USD = $0.62/UK pound, Brits get about $1.60 trading pounds for dollars, so that'd be a distinct advantage for tourist coming to the US from UK right now! (Never was good at Math!!) >Hey Donna, I got to thinkin' :-) since they were paid (in America) in >pounds ther would be NO exchange rate(sorry 'bout that!)...you're talkin' >'bout what it would be worth in todays' pound to dollar rate?? >As of today, Mon 21 Feb00..a US dollar is worth about $1.60/British >pound. If you are trading a British pound for a dollar, you only get $0.60 >.... > > > > > >>Hey everyone, >>I have been looking at records especially in the late 1790's where people >>still paid in pounds instead of dollars. 3. Bastardly Bonds. When a girl had a child out of weblock the court made her name the father and either the father of the child or someone from his family would post a bond (money) for the support of the child. ----- Original Message ----- From: "JON WILLAND" <jon.and.lois.willand@worldnet.att.net> To: <ROWANROOTS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, February 21, 2000 7:55 PM Subject: Re: [RowanRoots] ROWANROOTS-D Digest V00 #42 > Would someone please tell this poor northerner looking for gg grandfather > John Davis, b. 1809, probably Rowan county, what the Bastardy Bonds are? > Thanks. > Lois Willand > > ---------- > >From: Whitewolfe0510@aol.com > >To: ROWANROOTS-L@rootsweb.com > >Subject: [RowanRoots] ROWANROOTS-D Digest V00 #42 > >Date: Mon, Feb 21, 2000, 2:48 PM > > > > > Hello, > > Does anyone have access to Bastardy Bonds? 3. Donna, The definition of "probate" is roughly to prove before a court that the last will and testament of a DECEASED person is the genuine article..so they have to be dead before any will is probated.... and about the pounds to dollars, you would have to know an exchange rate for in the 1700's and I have no idea, perhaps someone else in the List is better versed on that than I am! :-) >Hey everyone, >I have a question that I need answered please. When you have a will that >is probated in court, is the person still alive when a will is probated >or have they most likely already died? >Thanks, Donna

    3. Melanie, If you have access to a Family History Center, look under NC, then probate records, then bastardy bonds and you will find microfilm of them for the state, arranged by county, that you can view/copy the bonds for yourself. Rick Saunders http://pweb.netcom.com/~fzsaund/0.html

    1. [RowanRoots] Pounds and dollars
    2. Better to ask how many dollars in a pound than the other way around. When I was in elementary school in Evansville, Indiana, I learned that a pound was worth about $5.40. That was then. Now, a pound is worth about $1.35. And, of course, a dollar in 1950 would be worth about 8 cents today. I learned in Accounting 101 that a gallon is always a gallon and a mile is always a mile, but a dollar changes all the time. How can you relate relative values when the value of both quantities changes continually?? Cookie, in Florida

    3. Hey everyone, I have been looking at records especially in the late 1790's where people still paid in pounds instead of dollars. Does anyone know about how many pounds is in an American dollar? I don't need the information for any specific purpose other than for fun to see approximately how much money these people were paying in that time period. Thanks, Donna

    1. [RowanRoots] David POOL of Rowan Co., NC
    2. Betty A. Pace
    3. DAVID POOL (tradition says of the Van Pool line from old Jacob Van Pool of 1759 Rowan Co., NC) was born somewhere between 1800 and 1810. He had children by ANGELINE BULLEN/BOLLIN/BULLAND (1824-aft.1880Rowan): Isabel Pool(e) Clayton W. Pool(e)- b.1848 Abraham Pool(e) Mary Pool(e) L. Clayton W. Pool (1848-1908) married Susan Isabella JULIAN, and Abraham married a Laura (?)--both lived in Salisbury, Rowan Co., NC. I am descended from Clayton's daughter Mary Ann Poole (m. C.W. Pace Sr.)--her siblings were Walter, George, Roxanne (m. Charles Mowery), and Hartwell/Harton. DAVID POOL was much older than Angeline BULLEN, and he may have had a previous wife. He is not the David Pool from Montgomery Co. NC. My David Pool died in Rowan Co., NC, in 1867. I would appreciate any information about the family/parents of my David Pool. 2. Oscar Hoffmeyer, Jr.
    3. Desire data on RICKART ancestors. Leonard/Mary Shafer RICKART lived in Rowan County in mid-late 1700's. He was a Rev. soldier. They had at least three children I can find--possibly 3 more. They were Jacob (b)1786, Margaret (b) 1789 and John (b) cir. 1790. What source in Rowan Co.can provide validation of these dates and data on possibly three others in the family, names unknown. The family apparently moved to Virginia after 1800 and later on to Ohio. Also, where is a good source for history of Rowan County on the internet? Thanks for any help Oscar ________________________________________________________________ YOU'RE PAYING TOO MUCH FOR THE INTERNET! Juno now offers FREE Internet Access! 3. In some information from records on Landrine Eggers: he stated to the Rev. Pension board that he, Jeremiah Green(e) and John Green(e) had paid $45 for the 9 month term to SAMUEL LOVE. That way Msrs. Green, Green and Eggers were exempted from serving in the Rev. Army for a term. I would like move information on Mr. Love such as his wife and children's names, etc. I am still looking for the parents of Thomas A. Love who came into Ashe County at Laurel Creek in the 1800s. He was born about 1803 and his wife was named Catherine (possibly Johnson). Audrey
