    1. [RowanRoots] Benjamin SIMPSON in Rowan, before 1783
    2. Larry Coats
    3. Here's hoping that someone has a connection to a Benjamin SIMPSON of Rowan Co.NC; He was born in 1763 and d. in Rowan in 1822. Had at least one daughter, Lucy, but there were probably other children. Am especially interested in the name of his wife or wives. Is it possible that he was the son of a Wm Simpson who married a Lettice Lunsford in Stafford Co. VA in 1756? If anyone has anything at all on this Benjamin, please drop me a line. Regards, Larry

    1. [RowanRoots] MORROWS & others
    2. Att: Myrna Madigan, I have been seeing some of your correspondence about MORROW, DAVIS, etc. I had a book several years ago on Inter Library loan, titled The Mecklinburg Signers And their Neighbors by Worth S. Ray that could be a great help to you in your quest for information on these early surnames and settlers during and before the Revolution in NC I would be interested in knowing if you find the book and what your reaction is to it! Perhaps we can trade some information. Looking forward to your response. My wife is from Greene Co. IL with roots in NC. and I have Mcknight /Morrow connections in early NC. 3. You mentioned your Davis family all having similar names. My John Davis has these names for his children and grandchildren: Mary Amanda, Jane, Alexander, James Newton, Arthur, Charles, Willard, Walter, Elizabeth, Ada, Esther. Sending you these in case they ring any bells. Of course lots of folks used these names. They sound English, don't they? I've been hoping my Davis folks were Welsh! Lois

    2. I have only been able to document my line back to NANCY TODD married SOLOMON CHESHIRE . I havent been able to find NANCY TODD mentioned in all these copies of papers I have . I have some papers relating to SARAH TODD daughter of JOSHUA TODD & ELIZABETH PALMER TODD . JEMIMA TODD & JOHN WAGLE -> son Joseph TODD married ANN CRUSE MY NANCY TODD was suppose to be a cousin to MARY TODD LINCOLN & somehow related to the Dr. TODD . I have a copy of court documnet with plaintiff -> THO TODD & M_ _ _ ockler as defendant { Salisbury court house , Rowan } dosent say what for . SUSANNAH TODD died 7-17-1886 at 80 yesr - ELIZABETH TODD born 5-22-1835 died 6-21-1921 at 86 yrs - SARAH L. wife of DAVID TODD born 3-17-1854 , died 12-17-1921 at 67 yrs . A couple of months ago I purchased an old book -> Annals of Platt county , Mo. This book is loaded with TODD who moved to Platt county , Missouri . 1. [RowanRoots] Re: ROWANROOTS-D Digest V03 #178
    2. Betty I. Silfies
    3. Dear Cherie, There were 2 different families of Todds in old Rowan County. One came from PA in abt 1769, Benjamin Todd and his brothers Caleb , Thomas and John, and maybe Joseph. They were in the part of Rowan that became Davidson. Benjamin and his sons and some of the others moved on to Madison Co. KY in the 1790s, but some stayed. The other Todds were west of the Yadkin and there was a John and a Thomas but I did not follow that line. They may both have been related. Have you tried Worldconnect on Rootsweb, or the Todd mailing list yet? There is a lot about them on World Connect, but some mistakes too. I even found myself given as a source of some of the incorrect info. I must remember to try to find that and let the person know. Betty

    1. [RowanRoots] Rowan County DAVIS
    2. Myrna Madigan
    3. Some time back I posted a query with the Rowan Co will of John MORROW who had two daughters who married James Davis Sr and James Davis Jr, but not father and son. I've just returned from Greene County, Illinois, where these two Davis families were by 1835, with some additional information that may prove helpful to some of you. Let me say I'm not firm on any of this information; I'm just beginning to put families together. I visited the Greene County Historical Society, courthouse and a few cemeteries. I gleaned information from two Greene County Histories and a Greene County Atlas from the 1870-1880 time period, plus land, census, cemetery, court and newspaper records. Following is what I've come up with.... James DAVIS Sr. b. 1780 d. 18 Aug 1858 Sangamon Co IL buried Greene Co IL. Jane MORROW b. 1780 North Carolina d. 18 Nov 1855 Greene Co., buried Greene Co IL. Married 1803 in NC and came to Greene County IL in 1835 [according to a Greene Co history bio and land records] Children: Allen Morrow Davis b. abt. 1805 NC 1st wife unknown; children Alfred 1843, Mariah 1845 m. 2nd Margaret Cradick 5 Oct 1848 Greene Co IL; had infant daughter Ellen in 1850 census of Greene Co James Davis b. abt. 1807 NC, married Martha [?] in 1828 in Rowan Co NC Thomas Davis b. 20 Jan 1810 Rowan Co NC d. 8 Jun 1882 Greene Co IL m. Anna Morrow 15 Dec 1831 in NC, 2 children m. Amanda Hinton 6 Jun 1839 Greene Co IL, 2 children m. Elizabeth R Bishop 12 Aug 1855 Greene Co IL, 3 children Ransom Davis b. ?? m. Francis Arnspicher 20 Oct 1839 Greene Co IL Arthur Davis b. 29 Dec 1817 Rowan Co NC m. Rosanna Pruitt 9 Sep 1842 Greene Co IL m. Margaret P Rawlings 30 Aug 1853 Greene Co IL [bio in the 1879 Greene Co History tells of his parents and brothers] Asbury Davis b. 1819 Rowan Co NC d. 12 Sep 1880 Jacksonville IL m. Mary Ann Hagar 17 Jan 1847 Greene Co IL [Well documented in Greene Co. Married his employer's daughter; had two daughters, was a merchant and banker] William Jackson Davis b. 1823 Rowan Co NC d. 10 Oct 1876 buried Jones Cem. m. Mariah C Hinton 23 Dec 1843 Greene Co IL Mariah b. 25 Dec 1822 d. 9 Jan 1895 buried Jones Cem. --------------------------------------- James Davis, Jr. b. 14 Nov 1789 Rowan Co NC, d. 10 Feb 1840 Greene Co IL Elizabeth Morrow b. 31 Jan 1786 Rowan Co NC., d. 3 Sep 1854 Greene Co IL married about 1814 Children: Eliza Davis b. 24 Jan 1815 d. 1 Apr 1878 m. Irvin Little 12 Feb 1839 Margaret Davis b. 14 Mar 1816 d. 10 Nov 1844 m. Richard Simmons Wilson Davis b. 16 Mar 1818 d. 13 Dec 1868 m. Margaret Arnspiger William C Davis b. 11 Oct 1819 d. 5 Jan 1905 m. Lucinda Kirkland John Davis b. 19 Sep 1821 d. 5 Jan 1893 m. Eliza Fitzgerald (Ann) Nancy Davis b. 24 Oct 1823 d. 8 Jul 1900 m. Edmont Hodges Joseph Davis b. 16 Jul 1829 d. 5 Sep 1900 m. Jane Arnolt Elizabeth Davis b. 24 May 1831 d. 20 Oct 1871 m. Jeff Davis [all the above births and deaths are from Bible record pages; marriages from a contributed chart, but I've not been able to find any but the first (w/date) in the IL Marriages database] The "Jones Cemetery" is interesting. Joshua Jones, wife Elizabeth, also came from North Carolina and purchased land in 1835. He set aside the acreage for the cemetery when his wife died in 1837. I found no burial record for Joshua but Elizabeth was born about 1783. There is an "Allen Cemetery" about 1 1/2 miles from "Jones". There are burials for the Allen, Jones, Morrow, Davis families in both cemeteries but I think "Jones" is probably slightly older. "Allen" is on land purchased by James Morrow Allen in 1836. I think the following burials at "Jones" are for someone other than members of the two families I've detailed here..... James Davis, Aug 1848, 78 yrs. [b. abt. 1770] Nancy Davis, Apr 1865, age 80 yrs. [b. abt. 1785] Daniel Davis, May 1865, 75 yrs. [b. abt. 1790] Rebecca, wife of Daniel Davis, 1873, age 81 yrs. [b. abt. 1792] Any help out there? Comments or questions? Myrna Madigan Tuscola IL

    1. [RowanRoots] Fraud Email Example
    2. Ladies & Gentlemen, following is an example of a fraud email. Look at it and remember the next time you get one so as to prevent you from getting stung by some huckster!!!! Don't fall for any of the sob stories you read on the Internet requesting money. If you wish to give money, use the normal, proven channels such as United Way or your Church or a REPUTABLE organization whom you have had dealings with before. Sorry to go ballistic, but we have to take back the internet!!!! Billy Markland FRAUD MESSAGE BEGINS: Dear friend, As you read this, I don't want you to feel sorry for me, because, I believe everyone will die someday. My name is Muhammed Ismail, a merchant in Dubai, in the U.A.E.I have been diagnosed with lung cancer. It has defiled all forms of medical treatment, and right now I have only about a few months to live, according to medical experts. I have not particularly lived my life so well, as I never really cared for anyone (not even myself) but my business. Though I am very rich, I was never g enerous, I was always hostile to people and only focused on my business as that was the only thing I cared for. But now I regret all this as I now know that there is more to life than just wanting to have or make all the money in the world. I believe when God gives me a second chance to come to this world I would live my life a different way from how I have lived it. Now that God has called me, I have willed and given most of my property and assets to my immediate and extended family members as well as a few close friends. I want God to be merciful to me and accept my soul so, I have decided to give alms to charity organizations, as I want this to be one of the last good deeds I do on earth. So far, I have distributed money to some charity organizations in the U.A.E, Algeria and Malaysia. Now that my health has deteriorated so badly, I cannot do this myself anymore. I once asked members of my family to close one of my accounts and distribute the money which I have there to charity organization in Bulgaria and Pakistan, they refused and kept the money to themselves. Hence, I do not trust them anymore, as they seem not to be contended with what I have left for them. The last of my money which no one knows of is the huge cash deposit of twenty four million US dollars (US$24,000,000), that I have with a deposit company abroad. Acknowledge this message so that I can introduce you to my lawyer who will handle the transfer of receivership by you of the said funds. I will want you to help me collect this deposit and dispatched it to charity organizations. My lawyer shall put you in the picture of the funds, tell you where the funds are currently being maintained and also discuss modalities including remuneration for your services. For this reason kindly furnish your contact information, that is your address, personal telephone and fax number for confidential purpose. God be with you. Muhammed Ismail END OF FRAUD ATTEMPT !!!!!!!!!!

I thank you again for that information. My question at this time is if Mrs.. Hughes is still a source? I am searching for the Rockingham Co. NC map and have been unable to find any other source. I would appreciate any information concerning this. I still have address and phone number unless they have changed in last two years. I thought I would try to check with you before I tried to call or write to Mrs. Hughes. Sincerely Jerry McKnight
