    2. Hello I am an Ancestry.com member as I am sure many of you are. I have sent numerous e-mails to them to fix a link for a census. 1. [RowanRoots] Charles and Celia Walker
    2. Harold R Collins Jr
    3. Our family lines tie into DNA Grp 19. A cousin just shared the following info on Charles. At first I thought he might be the Charles (reported as s/o of Thomas b. 1711) b. abt 1741, but he went on to GA. We have always found Celia listed as head of household until this info surfaced. Seven of her ten children fit the age range of this Charles. Does anyone have info on this Charles? 1768 Charles Walker with son James on Tax List of Iredell Co with 2 WP (means James is over 21) p. 98 (Rowan Co Tax List 1757-1800 by Jo White Lynn) 1772 Charles Walker on Tax list, p 113, Iredell Area. Tax list of Walter Lindsey (Rowan Co Tax List 1757-1800 by Jo White Lynn) 1794 Charles Walker, 200 acres 1 WP, on Back & 3rd Creek, NW Rowan Co (from Rowan Co. Tax list, p.327-by Jo White Linn) 1796 August, list an estate settlement naming Charles Walker with wife, Celia Walker. (Abstracts of Deeds of Rowan Co. by James W. Kluttz) Additional info on Celia and our known ancestors: In the 1840 Lincoln Co., TN census (11th Civil District), Lee Walker's household is as follows: 1m 5-10, 1m 10-15, 2m 20-30, 1m 50-60, 1f -5, 1f 10-15, 1f 15-20, 1f 70-80. So clearly, Lee Walker did have additional children. The ages of the eldest two sons are consistent with that of the Lee Walker in Iredell Co., NC in 1820 (see below). The 70-80 year old female in Lee Walker's household is Celia Walker. According to my family tradition, Celia Walker is the sister of Lee Walker; and that Celia Walker is the mother of my Smith L. Walker. However, the census records and their age differences lead me to believe that she is more likely the mother of Lee Walker and the grandmother of Smith L. Walker. Here is a list of known facts: 1. Celia Walker is head of household in Rowan Co., NC in 1800 with the following: 3m -10, 2m 10-16, 1f -10, 1f 26-45, 1f 45+. (NOTE: I can't locate my copy of her household in Rowan or Iredell Co., NC in 1810.) 2. "Cecillia" Walker is head of household in Iredell Co., NC in 1820 with the following: 1m -10, 1m 10-16, 1f 10-16, 1f 16-26, 1f 26-45. (NOTE: Within the near vicinity of her household are the following households: William A. Walker, Arthur Walker, Nancy Walker and Lee Walker.) 3. "Cealia" Walker is the head of household in Lincoln Co., TN in 1830 with the following: 1f 5-10, 1f 30-40, 1f 60-70. 4. Smith L. Walker was born 20 Oct 1809 in North Carolina. 5. Lee Walker is listed as being 64 years old (born in VA) in the 1850 Lincoln Co., TN census. 6. Celia Walker is listed as being 86 years old (born in VA) in the 1850 Lincoln Co., TN census (in her grandson-in-law's household, James Harbin). 7. There are two known brothers, Stephen T. Walker and John W. Walker, who are in Lincoln Co., TN around the same time frame. Stephen T. Walker was born 1 Jan 1782 in VA. John W. Walker is listed as being 60 years old (born in VA). Stephen T. Walker married Elizabeth C. Tiffin on 21 Sep 1816 in Pittsylvania Co., VA. John W. Walker married Milly Covington on 6 Dec 1815 in Pittsylvania Co., VA. 8. An ongoing DNA study of male WALKERs has proven that Stephen T. Walker & John W. Walker share a common ancestor with known brothers, William Walker (b. Abt. 1772, VA) and Jeremiah Walker (b. Abt. 1773, VA). Now to some speculation that might tie all of these facts together. Based on my family's tradition that Smith L. Walker was the son of Celia Walker, I had always assumed that he was either the male under 10 or the male 10-16 years of age in her household in 1820. However, now that it appears that Smith L. Walker is more likely her grandson, I have begun to rethink a lot of things. Included in this rethinking is the possibly that Smith L. Walker is the son of Lee Walker. Smith L. Walker could be one of the males under 10 in his household in 1820. But the most compelling evidence, in my opinion, that adds weight to them being father and son, is that BOTH Lee Walker and Smith L. Walker are not in Lincoln Co., TN for the 1830 census. Yet they both appear with their own households in 1840. There is no question that Lee Walker was in Lincoln Co., TN prior to the 1830 census, because he is on the Lincoln Co., TN tax rolls for 1828, 1829 and 1830. While I have yet to locate any evidence to substantiate it, my overall theory is that William Walker (b. Abt. 1772) and Jeremiah Walker (b. Abt. 1773) are half-brothers of Stephen T. Walker and John W. Walker. That Celia Walker (maiden name unknown) married William and Jeremiah Walker's father, and had Stephen T. Walker, Lee Walker, John W. Walker and two additional sons. That her husband died prior to 1800. The 1800 census, at least, opens the door to this theory: 3m -10 (John W. about 10); 2m 10-16 (Lee about 14; Stephen was actually 18). __Jim Danley, 1365 Marabou Ln. , Vista, CA 92083, [email protected]

    1. [RowanRoots] Signing Off
    2. Ladies & gentlemen (and one fugitive librarian :>), I will be unsubscribing shortly in order to transfer my affairs to a new email address due to AOL being unable to fix a technical issue which robs me of the ability to use their browser. So, my future email will be [email protected] As I have a tendency to procrastinate, it may be some time before I rejoin. If anyone needs anything from me, please feel free to contact me at the above address. Also, I have just been given additional responsibilities at work (one person left, on their own free will no less!, and rather than backfill, guess who gets the work?) so my free time will necessarily be reduced. Until the time I rejoin, be good and if not able to be good, be careful !!! Best of wishes to a fine bunch of friends, (now I will be thinking of Laurel & Hardy all day; "It's another fine mess you got us into this time") Billy Markland

I have been unable, as yet, to establish which of the several Cannons and Sittons in the area were their families. Any help would be appreciated. Gary

    1. [RowanRoots] Re: [COATES-L] RE: Patsy Coats
    2. Thank you, John, for responding to my query and plea re Patsy. Sounds as if the NC clan is sort of "mixed up." Well, these people had more urgencies to worry about than their family trees, urgencies such as watching out for Indians, clearing land, raising crops, fighting the British, organizing their own governments and militia, etc., etc., etc. Each family may have kept their own records but there was no central repository of records which you and i, at this late date, could easily research. So, we dig, and dig, and dig, and then repeat. My WILLIS clan has resisted cursory digging. If I really took the time and knew where to look I might find more. I think they came down from Virginia, where they came from before that I don't know - I suppose they're English. This is what I have. 3. Looking for evidence of parents of two Boger women whose marriage bonds are as follows: Groom: Peter Cruse Bride: Caty Boger Bond Date: 27 Aug 1796 Bond #: 000131387 Level Info: North Carolina Marriage Bonds, 1741-1868 ImageNum: 000742 County: Rowan Record #: 03 034 Bondsman: Jacob Lingle Witness: Jno Rogers And: Groom: Jacob Foil Bride: Betsey Boger Bond Date: 24 Oct 1797 Bond #: 000124795 Level Info: North Carolina Marriage Bonds, 1741-1868 ImageNum: 000742 County: Rowan Record #: 01 133 Bondsman: Daniel Boger Witness: Jno Rogers The Cruse Family Genealogy says that Caty and Peter were married "by Pastor Carl August Gotlieb Storch in Organ Church." Most family databases on the web (unfortunately without citing sources) link Caty to a "Catherine Boger" born 10 July 1780, Rowan County, NC, daughter of Jacob Boger and Margaret Leffler. No source is cited for the birth date (baptismal record? Bible record?). Betsey might possibly be Caty's sister, born according to those same family databases 10 Nov 1775 ("Elizabeth Boger"). A "Jacob Boger" is mentioned in the Minutes of Mecklenburg Co NC Ct of Common Pleas and Quarter Sessions, April 1790. A "Jacob Boger" is in the Mecklenburg County, NC 1790 census. That might be the same "Jacob Boger" listed in "Salisbury, Cabarrus County, NC" in 1800; and in Cabarrus County, NC in 1810. Jacob Foil might be the "Jacob Foils" in the 1800 "Salisbury, Mecklenburg County, NC" census and the 1810 Cabarrus County, NC census. Peter Cruse might be the "Peter Croose" in the 1800 "Salisbury, Rowan County, NC" census. I don't know what relationship Jacob Lingle might be to Caty or Peter. Daniel Boger might be a brother to Betsey. Family databases have a "Daniel Boger" brother of Betsy and Caty born 9 October 1773 and marrying an "Elizabeth" around 1795. A "Daniel Boger" appears in the 1800 Salisbury, Rowan County, NC census (another "Daniel Boger appears in the 1800 Salisbury, Cabarrus County, NC census, but he appears to be older by one generation than the Rowan County Daniel). Does the Organ Church have a baptismal register that might corroborate the birth dates and sibling relationships of Caty, Betsy, and Daniel? Did the presumed father Jacob Boger leave any estate to be divided? (Some sources have this Jacob died 1831 Davie County, NC. If 1831, wouldn't that be Rowan County, since Davie was not formed until mid 1830's?) Thanks for any light you might share on disentangling these families! Gary Rolph Manchester New Hampshire

Indiana, from Rowan County, and I know they married Redwine sisters in 1798 or so. But who are their parents and how are they related to John Davis? Is anyone here researching Robert Clark Davis and Isaac Ross Davis? And if someone has more information on John Redwine's family, I would like to add that to my research. thanks, Pat Fleury --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! 1. [RowanRoots] Trading Ford area historic sites threatened - still!
    2. Ann Brownlee
    3. Dear old and new friends of Old Rowan, The Trading Ford area of the Yadkin River, between Salisbury and Lexington, NC, is one of the most important historic areas in Piedmont North Carolina. It was the place where Native-Americans lived and crossed the Yadkin River thousands of years ago. It was the place where early explorers and settlers entered the old Rowan county area in the 17th and 18th centuries. It was the place where General Nathanael Greene’s army escaped the British in February, 1781, during the Revolutionary War. It was the scene of the last Confederate victory in North Carolina in the Civil War. Many of its historic sites are being needlessly threatened by a proposed I-85 widening project (TIP I-2304-A). We believe careful planning can accommodate widening I-85 while minimizing damage to these irreplaceable historic sites. There are reasonable and cost-effective alternatives!
