We thought this was because of the way it might sound when pronounced with a German accent, but we don't know. Do you happen to see any connections to: Daniel Roth/Rhode, 1822-1872 m. Maria Ursula Kremer 1824-1879 Children: AUGUSTUS, Elisabeth, Henrietta, Louise Mathilde, Wilhelmina Augustus b. 1846 m. Barbara Ann SCHMIDT in 1870 in St. Charles, MO Elisabeth b. 1851 also married a SCHMIDT (Heinrich) in St. Charles, MO I don't know where they came from before St. Charles (other than they were born in Baden, Germany). They apparently came to St. Charles between 1851 and 1856. Thanks -
