Greetings All, I got these pointers from Marie, the List Administrator for the HUGHES-L mailing list, but they are relevant to our lists: "There are a number of things which we should all remember so as to allow the lists to run smoothly. 1. Give your email an appropriate subject heading. If you do not show what your query is about, some subscribers will not take time to open it. 2. Please sign your emails with a name and place. It helps if readers know where you are when replying to queries such as 'Where can I find...?' 3. The list will not accept attachments. If you do, your email won't get through as they are filtered out by Rootsweb. 4. Messages and queries of general interest to FOGL (not sure what this means?) should be sent to the list, but personal messages should be sent directly to the individual. If you are replying to a request for a look-up, send your answer to the list to avoid duplication. 5. When replying, edit your email so as not to include copies of complete emails. Edit them down to the relevant passage. 6. Because of the filters applied by rootsweb, you will not catch any viruses through this List. Please do not clutter up the list with virus warnings,.many of which are hoaxes anyway. 7. Although you should use lower case for the text of an email, it is a good idea to use capitals for the surnames you are researching so that they can be spotted easily.
