Gail, Unfortunately, this is all I have on the family. It's been a brick wall for me for over two years. I got this info from Harry Lamont Roth's Kentucky death certificate, which listed his place of birth as Pennsylvania, but no town. Trouble is, birth records for that period (if available at all) can only be had from the counties. And since I don't know the name of either the town or the county, I would have to search all X-number of county records in PA. I don't even know for certain whether Harry's parents' names were Charles and Sarah. I've just been told that was so. Also, there's a question whether Sarah's maiden name was Miller or Mueller. Kentucky family lore has it that Harry was "Pennsylvania Dutch". And that's about all I know about his origins. The only way to know the parent's names for certain is to get ahold of Harry's birth certificate. "Harry Lamont"is not a common name combination. So I'm sure if I could find where in Pennsylvania the family lived, I could locate the birth or Christening records. I have a Charles Roth married to a Sarah Miller. I don't have birth dates for either of them. But they had a son, Harry Lamont Roth (b.15 Oct 1862). So estimating birth dates for them would probably make it before 1842. Often, marriages occurred within families, brothers married sisters, etc. Wondering if Gail has any records for siblings of her Daniel Roth or Catherine Miller? Thanks for your help.

As people interested in genealogy, I thought you would find this interesting. I didn't know this before I read the information below. The Learning Kingdom's Cool Word of the Day for December 21, 2000 - -------------------------------------------------------------------- pedigree [n. PED-ih-gree] - -------------------------------------------------------------------- In human genetics pedigree is used to trace the inheritance of specific traits. However, the word pedigree is most often used in the context of animals. It is a genealogical record that shows the purity or a breed. Example: "The breeder told us the horse's pedigree as part of his sales pitch." Pedigree is also your family tree, the line of ancestors that have preceded you. Near synonyms include lineage, breed, blood, and ancestry. Pedigree is a variation on the late Middle English word pedegru, which was derived from the similar sounding French phrase for foot of a crane (pie de grue). The three splayed out toes on the crane's foot were thought to be a good way to describe the appearance of the lines on a genealogical chart. Denise dcmeta@interx.net One Planet ~ One People
