Roth. He lived in Watertown Wisconsin. I do not have much history on him and how he got to Watertown. He was married to Emma Sauck and I have had contact with her side of the family. I am wondering if it is possible that there is a link. My fathers name was Eugene Henry Roth. He told me that his ancestry came to the USA at Elis Island and then moved to different parts of the USA. I am going to try to contact the Aztalan, Wisconsin Cemetary to see what records they have on my Gr.Grandffather. Do you have any other Information on the Roth family and how they got to the United States.? I am very much interested in learning more about the Roth History? Sincerely, Joyce A. Allen

With this Roth line unfortunately I started from scratch. Martin died of tuberculosis in 1906 before my father was born and Martins son Edwin (my dads grandfather) had moved to California and Edwins son Eugene (my dads father) also died of tuberculosis when my father was about 11 yrs old. My grandmother remarried and in those days kids were not free to ask questions like they do today. Martins naturalization papers were from Huron, I got a copy from Norwalk probate court, but on the papers it stated that he had filed his declaration of intent in Sandusky County so this Fri. I am going to the Rutherford B Hayes Library where the dec. of intents are kept. I called them and they do have a Martin Roth that arrived in the USA in 1881....I hope it's him! If I have time on my way back I would like to go to the Woodlawn Cemetery in Norwalk, that's where Martin and his family are buried there are over 50 Roths buried there.

    2. Mike, I don't find any direct connections to the people listed in your message, but my gr-grmother, Anna Maria ROTH, is listed as "RODE" in her Harrison Co., IN, marriage records. My ROTH's came from Bavaria to Indiana in 1854 with the BAUER family, which I see is also in your list of surnames. Both families were from the village of Karbach, which is in Unterfranken near Wurzburg. The ROTH's moved on to Wisconsin, while the BAUER's remained in southern Indiana. Jack Ott

    2. Denise
    3. BREATHING LIFE INTO ANCESTORS by Ted Pack tedpack@thevision.net ["Anyone who wants to copy [this article] may do so as long as they give me credit and spell my name correctly." Ted Pack] How many times have you found an ancestor and wondered what they were like; what made them laugh, what made them cry, what made them give up the farm in Vermont and move to Kansas? What was the Civil War like, not for the generals, but for an 18-year-old farm boy in the 118th Ohio Volunteer Infantry? What was it like to marry at 18, move to the howling wilderness we now call Indiana, and be expected to provide for your new wife with axe, plow, and musket? It is too late to ask our pioneer ancestors, of course, but you can ask your living relatives what their lives were like, and you can write an autobiography. With luck the story will be passed down. If you write a biography of your grandparents, your grandchildren could have an idea of what life was like for them-a span of five generations. Your children might think of you as dull; mine do. Your great-grandchildren, assuming someone finds a copy of your autobiography in an attic, might find you fascinating. Some people have a hard time thinking of anything to write, and some of us ramble along for hours at the slightest provocation. I'm the second type of person; most of my relatives are the first type. I wrote up two pages of general questions for my relatives. The questions are also on my Web site. If you answer all of the questions in complete sentences you'll have a start on an autobiography. If you answer each of them with a couple of paragraphs, you will have 30 pages of heirloom more valuable than a gold watch. 3. Posted on: Roth Queries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/surnames/rot/Roth/10192 Surname: ROTH, HUNKLEY ------------------------- I am researching my gr-gr-grandfather Martin Roth. He was born abt 1862 in Germany and died Jan. 24, 1906 in Norwalk, Huron County Ohio He married Christine Hunkley dau. of Albert Hunkley Sept. 2, 1884 in Huron Ohio. His final record of naturalization was from Probate Court Huron Oh. on Nov. 7, 1887. I'm trying to find out when Martin came to the United States and if any other family members came with him. He was not yet a citizen when he married so I think possibly he had not been here long enough to apply for citizenship (I think it's 5 years). I checked the many volumes of "Germans to America" going back as far as his birth year and could not find him. I do have a copy of his death certificate, it says he was a taylor by occupation, he was born in Germany and his parents are not listed. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    2. Denise, there is a separate forum on GenForum that you can access by jumping to the "genforum" forum. It is used by disgruntled researchers like me to voice our concerns to genealogy.com and other users. I just posted a message to that forum describing your warning and asking them if they can refute the allegation. I have always felt that familytreemaker was an absolute ripoff (charging steep prices for information that may or may not be there). If this new information is correct, it will further confirm my impression of them. Thanks for your posting. Jack Ott
