    1. Henry August Roth of Texas
    2. I am researching my maternal grandmother's line. Her father was Henry August Roth, born March 23, 1889, and died February 2, 1952, in Orange Grove, Jim Wells County, Texas. Henry married Annie Augusta Carolina Frerichs on November 4, 1913, in Burlington, Milam County, Texas where my grandmother, Edna Carolina Roth was born the following year. Henry Roth's death certificate states that he was the son of John Roth and Anna Cubala Roth. John was born c. a 1844 in Swiss/Germany according to the 1900 census. Anna was born on a ship coming over from Austria in 1852. I do not have any information on when or where John Roth died. Children of John and Anna Roth are: Edmund (Edd) Roth, born c.a. 1888 Henry August Roth, born March 23, 1889 Mary Roth John Roth My grandmother told me that Mary Roth married a man by the name of Monroe. They had a son, Lorenz Monroe who was born c.a. 1904 and who was killed by lightening while on horseback rounding up cattle in a storm in 1919. All of these families are from Texas, but I do not have places where they lived. They were sharecroppers who moved around quite a bit. Any additional information on this family would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Cyndie

    1. SS F.O.I.A. Application Fee Increase
    2. Some of you may not know that on July 1st the SS Administration is increasing its fees for obtaining SS applications, going from $7 to $27. May I suggest that people interested in this matter write to Larry G. Massanari, Acting Commissioner of Social Security, and tell him that they are opposed to the increase in the cost of obtaining copies of SS applications. Here's his address: Larry G. Massanari Acting Commissioner of Social Security Social Security Administration Headquarters 6401 Security Boulevard Baltimore, MD 21235-0001 800-772-1213 May I also suggest that they write to their U.S. Congressional Representatives. Here's how to find their contact info: U.S. Senate: <<http://www.loc.gov/global/legislative/senators.html>> U.S. House: <<http://www.loc.gov/global/legislative/house.html>> Because many politicians seem to be out of touch with the average taxpayer, I intend to emphasize the jump in cost from $7 to $27 --- 400%!!! I will do this by mail, sending them a print-out of this page <<http://www.ssa.gov/foia/foia_guide.htm>>, using a highlighting pen to draw attention to the new fees. Who knows if it will do any good? But I just can't let this pass without telling my elected representatives how I feel about our government finding yet another way to gouge American taxpayers. Here are four (of many) reasons why: 1. People were/are required by law to make these applications. They had/have no choice in the matter. 2. People paid/pay vast sums of money into SS for their entire working lives. The government now has a *nerve* to charge exorbitant fees for what amounts to public records that have already been paid for many millions of times over. 3. Many, if not most, of the people doing genealogical research happen to be SS recipients themselves. They can't afford to pay $27 for each search. This could seriously curtail their ability to use their time in this productive endeavor, which is so beneficial to our society as a whole. 4. These records are supposed to be readily available to the public. Aside from lack of imagination and will, there's no reason why the SS Administration couldn't make these documents available over the Internet for free, as has been done with the Ellis Island passenger manifests. One of the reasons the current cost of providing these records is so high is because the SS Administration insists on using outdated technology --- hard copies by mail. I plan to post this message to all the genealogy sites I can find. And I give permission to anyone who reads this message to forward it to their friends, family, and favorite genealogy sites as well. Perhaps if people can demonstrate a ground swell of opposition to this increase, by flooding these people with letters, the SSA will reconsider the amount of the increase. It's probably true that $7 is too low to cover the costs. That being the case, most people probably would not object to a $12 or $14 charge. But 400%??? Really!!! This is outrageous!!!

The emigration list indicates he was from Rothkirchen in Yugoslavia. This town is east of Belgrade near the Romanian border in what once was called the Banat. I am seeking information about the Roth family; so far I have not been able to locate church records or other documentation for this village at the time of Roth's birth.

    3. Posted on: Roth Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/surnames/rot/Roth/10200 Surname: Roth, Schoettle ------------------------- I am looking for information on George Edward Roth and his wife Eliza Schoettle. I think that they lived in Alsace Lorraine between about 1790 and 1870. They had a son called Adolf George Rothe in Alsace on 26/12/1843. At some time at least Eliza left Alsace because she died on 28/10/1866 in Islington London UK. Adolf George Roth, her son, married Jane Amy Stokes in Leith in Scotland on 11/10/1881. They had two children, George Leonard Roth and Dorothy Roth. Dorothy Roth settled in Hasings UK

Hayes library in Fremont, Oh. yesterday and I got Martins dec. of intent, and I found out he came to the U.S. Sept. 1881 but unfortunately it didn't say what part of Germany he came from. That is what I want to find out so bad! I'm sorry I don't have any more information on the Roth family, I feel I'm at a brick wall without knowing the city he came from I can't make a connection with other Roths researching their ancestors, I will keep looking though. Good luck in your research. Kathy

    1. Jacob and Ann Roth, Hardin County Ohio
    2. Hi list, I'm just sending the list my Roth information in case someone on the list may have some clues for me: My g-grandparents were Jacob and Ann Roth, who lived in Hardin Co. Ohio in the mid to late 1800s. Family stories said either or both Jacob or Ann's families were from Berne Switzerland originally. My g-grandmother, Caroline Roth Bailey, was born in Ohio (maybe Hardin County?) in 1850, and her obituary said she was one of eight children. With a family that large, there are probably some of my Roth cousins out there somewhere, hopefully doing family research!!!! Thanks! Caroline Fultz Jones Indianapolis, IN cej0216@aol.com
