I just found your message and see that you never got any responses. I have an ancestor who married into the Roth family and have been searching it as well. You refer to Wailing, WV. I think you mean Wheeling, Wv. It is located in Ohio Co. and is just across the Ohio River from the Monroe Co., Ohio area. Both the Roth and Fogle families were common in Monroe Co., Ohio. and some are still located there. Hope I've helped! Good Luck, Fred McPeek

    1. Anna or Mary Roth, 1826-1918, Ger>OH>KY>MN>KY
    2. Jim and Julie, there may be no connection, but your description of your Roth ancestors has a close similarity to mine, and I may be able to provide some clues or ideas for you. In 1854, my g-g-gfather John Roth and two brothers left Karbach, Bavaria (abt. 12 mi. west of Wurzburg) through the Port of Le Havre on the Ship Manchester. They arrived in New Orleans on May 1, 1854, then proceeded up the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers to Harrison Co., IN, very close to Louisville, KY. John's oldest daughter, b. Oct 15 1842, was named Anna Maria. Anna married Ferdinand Ott in Harrison Co. in 1860. They were my g-gparents. She died there in 1916. But by 1862, her parents, uncles, and the rest of her family had left Indiana and settled in the La Crosse, Wisconsin, area, immediately across the Mississippi from Minnesota. At least one of the Roth descendants was involved with a lumber mill in La Crescent, MN. I checked the passenger list for the Ship Manchester and did not find any Scharf's listed. But I have learned that there was a group of Bavarian immigrants living in Harrison Co., including others from the Karbach area. During my research, I have also come across a contingent of Roth's living in the town of Alzenau, Bavaria, located about 90 miles NW of Karbach. I hope some of this helps. Good luck in your search. I do recall hearing my father ( who is Abraham George Roth) say that there was Blackfoot Indian and German on his side of the family. He doesn't know much about his family, but I will list the names he has given me. If anyone has any connection to these names please email me at tim2sheila@aol.com. My grandfather was George Albert Roth from Baltimore Maryland. He was born in 1910 and passed away on November 30,1982. He was an engineer for the B&O railroad. His first wife was Lavinia L. Roth( don't know her maiden name) born Oct. 16,1912. I believe she passed in 1960. I believe she is buried in Parkwood Cemetery somewhere around the Towsend area. They had 5 children:George, Doug, Abraham, Lynn, and Virginia. I do remember my grandfather George having another woman and her daughter living with him after my grandmother Lavinia passed, but I do not remember their names, nor do ! I know if they were married. Again if anyone can help please email me tim2sheila@aol.com. Thank you Sheila Parks ( Roth)

    1. Edwin Roth, born ca 1895, and IN Milwaukee, WI ca 1895-6
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/HJEBAIB/797 Message Board Post: I recently purchased a wonderful old Cabinet Portrait studio photograph of "Edwin Roth - 1895" at an antique shop in St. Charles, IL. I enjoy rescuing lovely old pictures like these from antique shops and locating descendants/family members so that I can re-unite the pictures, for only my costs, with people who will treasure them. It is my estimate that the photo was taken in 1895, based on the writing on the photo, and the fact that it matches descriptions of pictures taken during that year. The picture is 4-1/4" x 6-1/2", and mounted on heavy cardboard, as was typical during that time period. It is in very good condition and is an original (not a copy). Wollensak Studios, 500 National Ave., Milwaukee, WI. Edwin appears to be about six months old, and is wearing a gorgeous christening dress. He is a bald baby, and so very cute. He is seated, posed, on what looks to be a bear rug - which is over a cane type chair. If you have Roth ancestors in your family from this time frame in Milwaukee, WI, please Email me at margerice@prodigy.net - and I will get back to you shortly.
