He left at the age of 14 to escape conscription. I wish to locate sources (church records, etc.) in the area to research Roth's ancestry. He eventually settled in Cape Girardeau, Mo.

The Martha Roth I mentioned was born 11 Dec 1829 - d. 27 Sep 1860 ...so she's not your Martha ... I checked my records and found two other Martha Roths - one born 28 Mar 1893 who married Jesse Maxwell ... And another born in 1907 ... Obviously, neither could be your Martha ... I checked my Mary Roths just in case, but found none of them had the right birth date or married to Alfred Adams ... Sorry I couldn't help! Darlene

My ROTHs originated in Thalfreoschen, Germany (Caspar b. 1745 & Elizabeth FERGER_ROTH). They moved to Berks Co. PA. where one of his sons, Johann Paul, was born (1787). Johann married Catharine REITER. One of their sons, Thomas Bradley ROTH, was b. in 1810 in Berks Co. PA. Thomas and wife, Esther D. GRIEST had 13 children, 12 of whom lived. All born in Pickaway Co. OH. From there the family (Thomas & Esther's) moved to Edgar Co. IL. in 1853-54. From there, they separated. One of the 12 moved back to OH. after a short stint in Comstock, Custer Co. NE. originally moving there in 1879 with my gr-grandparents, Jonas Specht (b. 1850, OH.) and Virginia EUBANK_ROTH. Jonas & Virginia stayed. My "future" grandfather and father were both born in Comstock. I have a little info on three of the 12...Jonas, Johnathan Griest ROTH (firstborn) and Albert Maywood ROTH. However, there is a small army of ROTHs out there for whom I'm still searching. One of the 12 sibs stayed in IL. (Thomas J. & Martha EUBANK_ROTH). One (Peter Paul ROTH: married?) moved to MT., one (William H. & Leonora PRITCHETT_ROTH...I think the H. stands for HUGHES) moved to CA., one (Johnathan C...probably Caspar & Jennie SHEPHERD_ROTH) moved to MO. You can view them all at my site: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~paroth Your Jake dying in ND may place him somewhere in my ROTH line...??? Until some cousin makes the connection, I'm in the dark about that army of elusive ROTHs. Good luck in your search. Hope you find your's...{:-) Again, my apologies for the delay. When I took over the ROTH boards, there were only abt. 6 of them...now all these "new" boards are here and this is the first time I checked this one. Regards, Paul Alan Roth

Surnames: OTT ROTH HOPPER SUMMERS UTZ NOOYEN HERMANS Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/HJEBAIB/800.1.1 Message Board Post: Debbie, I wish it were the same woman. My Anna Maria Roth came to Harrison Co, IN, with her family from Bavaria in 1854. She married Ferdinand Ott there in 1860, and spent the rest of her life in that area. After Ferdinand died in 1898, Anna moved to New Albany, in adjacent Floyd Co., and died there in 1916. Interestingly, however, soon after Anna Maria married Ferdinand, her parents, siblings, and extended family left Indiana and moved to the La Crosse, WI area. Much later, William Ott, son of Ferdinand and Anna Maria, brought his new wife to La Crosse, where my Dad Mervin Ott was born. About 1925, my Dad left La Crosse, went to Milwaukee, and married my mother, Rose Nooyen, who was from the Green Bay area. They remained in the Milwaukee area. I was born there in 1940 and grew up in Greendale. But as of now, I know of none of my Roth line that moved to the Milwaukee area.

You are almost certainly descendants of Hans Ulrich Arner and Verena Eberhard, 1735 immigrants from Switzerland to Philadelphia. Join us for an August 24-25, 2002 gathering in beautiful Lehigh County, Pennsylvania (1 hour north of Philadelphia). For “reunion” information or to see where you fit into the *rner family, visit Joe Erner’s website at www.geocities.com/~erner/gen/arner which documents the Arner/Aner family to the 1500s, or contact us through the Arner Listserv at ARNER-L@rootsweb.com. We’re planning two fun-filled days including a catered Pennsylvania Dutch luncheon and the dedication of a memorial stone in the Heidelberg Union Church cemetery to honor the immigrants. Help us widen our circle of cyber-cousins and plan to attend. We welcome you.

Their son, Johannes ROTH b. 19 Sep. 1782 Berks Co. PA married Saloma BEEIONMILLER. Close to what you have : BROWNMILLER...though you have Salome's middle (or maiden?) name. According to Stephen,(1) Saloma was Johannes' first wife, not second. (2) His second wife was Elizabeth FRITZ and they married 18 Sep. 1803. Stephen doesn't have any of Johannes & Saloma's children. Johannes was baptized 27 Oct. 1782, Schwartzwald Church, Reading, Berks Co. PA. Sponsor's Johann Paul FEGER & Elizabeth ADAMS. You can find Stephen's site URL at my site: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~paroth - It's in my ROTH file. Stephen has other FEGERs as sponsors for the ROTH line. I'm awaiting a reply about the FERGER/FEGER spellings. I asked him if one is a typo? Regards, Paul

My grandfather and grandmother (Alex and Marie Schaefer Roth) came from the Saratov area also. I believe they lived in Grimm. They were married just before they immigrated to the USA , arriving on June 13, 1912. They had family that lived in that area. Some brothers and cousins came to the states just before and after my grandparents did. Some of their family names were Meisnar, Schaefer, Dumblish, and Denner. Any possiblity of kinship?
