Dear Listers, Have just joined this list, in search of information about the family of John and Ellen (nee McRae) Mitchell, born 1812 and 1830 respectively. Children were John, Maggie, Alexander, James, George, Janet and Jane. John junior came to Australia, became a policeman, married, had two sons, was shot and killed by bushrangers in a gaol escape; he was my husband's great grandfather. What I need to know is, is the Uig in Ross and Cromarty the one on the island of Coll? If not, where? Is there anyone on the list who lives in Uig, R&C, who can find out anything for me about the Mealista Farm, where the family was living in the 1881 census?
