Hello Listers My great great grandfather Hugh YOUNG was a tennant farmer on the Isle of Mull. Sometime between about 1843 and 1848, the family moved up to Stornoway. My great grandfather James Allan YOUNG was born there in about 1849 although I can trace no birth record. An older daughter Margaret YOUNG married John LESLIE, a mariner on 3 December 1849 and in about 1851 they had their own daughter Susannah LESLIE, but again I have not found a birth record.The 1851 census shows Hugh's wife and some of the family in Glasgow, where they remained. I would love to find any record of the family's stay in Stornoway.They would have been as follows: Hugh YOUNG - born about 1805 died in 1850's Jane Scott YOUNG - maiden name CRAIG born about 1807 Annabella YOUNG - born 27.11.1830 Margaret YOUNG - born 17.06.1832 (see above) Thomas YOUNG - born 23.04.1834 Jane/Jean YOUNG - born 1.05.1836 Hugh YOUNG - born 16.03.1838 Elizabeth/Eliza YOUNG - born 31.12.1839 Robert YOUNG - born 22.09.1841 Amelia YOUNG - born about 1843 Agnes YOUNG - born about 1848 James YOUNG - born about 1849 Perhaps the 1851 census for Stornoway would show something if anyone has access to it?
