    1. Surname McLennan search
    2. Hello List, I am searching my great grandmother, born on Isle of Lewis, about 1814. She was Margaret McLennan. I have looked through Bill Lawson's site, and sent a request to his research service, but have not gotten a response. What experience have others had with this service? Her husband was Angus McNaughtan, from Perth. I have found one marriage record from Dec 1844, (location Uig) but I am not sure this would be them. Any help in my search would be most appreciated. Is there a website I could find the parishes in Isle of Lewis? I have the list for Ross, but cannot identify the locale from this. Many thanks for any suggestions. Lynn in Michigan

    3. Lynne: From the "Gazetteer of Scottish Places" Lewis & Harris: A group of islands in the Outer Hebrides. The main island of Lewis consists of Lewis on the north and Harris on the south. Between 1845 and 1975 the island Lewis contained the civil parishes of Barvas, Lochs, Stornoway, and Uig, all in the county of Ross and Cromarty; and the burgh of Stornoway. The south part of the island, Harris, was a civil parish in Inverness-shire. Lewis is sometimes spelt Lews.
