Hi - my great grandmother was Marion MacRae (bJan15,1836) in Harris, Inverness to John McRae and Catherine Urquhart. John and Catherine show up in the 1851 census of Nishishee. John is indicated as being 40 at the time and born in Rossshire, Kintail and Catherine (his wife) as being born in Gairloch and 28 at the time. I have not been able to find out any more about John McRae - if he was a shepherd then I wonder if he and his family would be listed somewhere? According to the death record for Catherine Urquhart - she died Aug26,1897 and was the widow of John McRae - a shepherd. Her father was Donald Urquhart (a cattle drover - and her mother was Margaret Urquhart (nee Urquhart). John and Catherine (Cathrine) had at least ten children according to the IGI including my ggrandmother Marion who married William Dingwall and died in Glasgow and Annie (born March 16,1843) who came to Sydney Cape Breton with her husband Daniel Poushay and died here.
