He was a jute mill overseer in Dundee before going to India, where he was employed as a batching foreman. My grandmother Dorothy Georgina Ross, per family information, was born 6/17/1894 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, to Donald and Jessie Hollis Ross, and died 12/7/1964, in Detroit, Michigan, USA. b. From scotlandspeople.gov.uk, I have a birth record naming Georgina Towns Ross, born 6/19/1893 at 14 Ross (or Rose) Street, Lochee, Dundee, to Donald Ross and Jessie Hollis. 3. Conclusions/Questions: a. I have 1891 census information on Donald Ross and his family. Where would I find any other information on Donald Ross after 1891? b. Donald's daughters Mary Jane and Jesse Hollis Ross were in the 1901 Winnipeg, Manitoba, census as servants, but I could not locate their mother Jessie Ross or any other siblings in that census. I used the 1901 Angus and Wigtonshire (where Jessie was born and her family lived) census on scotlandspeople.gov.uk, but I couldn't locate Donald's wife Jessie or any of their other children. I have searched some internet passenger lists for the family, thinking they emigrated to Canada, after 1891, but have found nothing so far. Where else could I look to find them? b. There are no Manitoba birth records for Dorothy Georgina Ross. In the 1930 Detroit, Michigan, census, she was living with my grandfather Charles David Rock, who she married before 1916. There, she states she was born in Canada. If Dorothy Georgina Ross and Georgina Towns Ross are the same person, it's obvious she arrived in Canada from Scotland at some point. What else can I do to find more information on her birth or on her arrival in Canada? Thanks for your suggestions.
