I'm new to Scottish genealogy and looking for advice from the experts! in the 1901 index for Middlesbrough Yorks: William ROSS 49 drapers assistant William ROSS 21 brass finisher James ROSS 19 Drapers assistant Fred ROSS 17 iron brokers clerk Elizabeth ROSS 15 Thomas ROSS 9 all born Rossshire (yes, 3 s's) no town name. Can SKS give me advice on how to find where they came from in Ross-shire? If the youngest son, Thomas, is 9, then he would show up in the 1891 census, but where? The family must have moved from Scotland to Yorkshire some time since Thomas's birth in 1892. IGI gives the following choices for William ROSS b. abt 1852: WILLIAM ROBERT ROSS Birth: 01 OCT 1849, Christening: 25 MAR 1852, Kilmuir-Easter, Ross And Cromarty, Scotland, Father: ROBERT ROSS, Mother: ISABELLA ROSS WILLIAM GEORGE ROSS Birth: 04 APR 1852, Christening: 12 APR 1852, Rosskeen, Ross And Cromarty, Scotland, Father: GEORGE ROSS, Mother: WILLIAMINA URQUHART WILLIAM ROSS, Birth: 15 APR 1852, Kincardine, Ross And Cromarty, Scotland, Father: DONALD ROSS, Mother: ANN MUNRO Any advice to point me in the right direction.... or ANY direction.... is appreciated! regards Fenella in Toronto Canada ______________________________________________________________________ Post your free ad now! http://personals.yahoo.ca
Hello All This is a dual reply to Fenella Rook and Angela Brass. Firstly I have a William Ross born 30/07/1855 to John Ross and Jane Fraser in Rosskeen - about the period you are looking at Fenella. Secondly his brother Hugh Munro Ross b. 06/09/1864 in Rosskeen - possibly some Munro connection Angela?
